Hello,

I received the attached message everytime I try to log into my Emby account via my Sony (Android) TV.  I can log into Emby via my firestick in another room, iphone, or macbook.  Is there an issue going on with with Sony's Emby app?

Hi, just perfect, thanks for doing that.

Is your server in the same LAN?

Try hitting REMOVE as shown in that dialog and then adding the server back again.

Thanks for the quick reply.  I tried removing it and manually adding it again.  When I do this it says that the server can't be found.  And yes the server is using the same LAN.

Hi, what is the exact message that you get?

Are you logging in directly to the server or using Emby Connect?

What did you enter for the server address after you deleted it?

Are you sure you entered the correct lan ip address?

Both.  When I log into the server by typing in the 192.168.... address, I get the Error contacting server message.

When I log into Emby connect, the server comes up but I get the wake message.

Are you able to ping the TV from the Emby Server from the command line?

I'm just wondering if they are able to communicate with each other.

What does that mean?  How do I ping my TV from the Emby Server command line?

You need to know the TV's IP address.  You can likely find it in the menu system of the tv or you could look it up in your router's DHCP (IP Allocation).

Then from the Emby server you open a command prompt and type "ping x.x.x.x" where the x.x.x.x is the IP of the TV.  So it may look something like this.

ping 192.168.1.124

You'll get messages back with ping times or an error.

Okay thanks.  I've never done this before so I'll need to check youtube for a quick tutorial.  I will get back to you.

If Windows you can bring up the menu and start typing "cmd".

If synology or any Linux then terminal or putty.

Ok now lets move on to the Sony TV set.

Try this:

Forget/remove the current server.
Setup a manual server connection using 192.168.1.11 as the IP and 8096 as the port.
Take a pic of this for us.
You should then get a login screen but if you get an error take a pic of that as well.

I’m not sure what happened but as soon as I went back to the Emby app on my TV, I was able to log in without a problem.

Do you think pinging the TV’s IP had something to do with it?

Doubtful but stranger things can happen.

Keep and eye on it and let us know if you experience any other related problems.

Thanks for your help. I have one more question. Is there a way to save my Emby data in case I want to transfer my files from one hard drive to another?

Are you talking about your Emby Server configuration?
If so the Config Backup Plugin will do this for you.

If you mean all your media files, that require double your storage and conventional backup software OR using some type of RAID that adds drive failure protection.
