Hello. I wanted to try Emby on Linux, but I am having a heck of a time getting Linux to see my media drives. I looked over all info however I am still stuck. The media drive is

/media/bj/2TB Emby Media

How can I give Emby the rights to see the drive?

thanks, Bj

For starters, you'll need to add the emby user to the group the hard drive and media directories belong to, which appears to be bj.

Open a terminal and type:  sudo usermod -a -G bj emby

Then  try to add a media directory again, and If that doesn't work open a terminal and navigate to the media directory and type in: ls -l, then post the results, and do the same for the media/bj directory.

Hi Mark. I renamed the media drives to make it easier to navigate.

From 2TBEmby Media ls -l gives me:

drwxrwxrwx 1 bj bj 131072 May 13 12:23 Movies
drwxrwxrwx 1 bj bj   4096 Apr 30 20:53 TV

from media/bj l - gives me

drwxrwxrwx 1 bj bj 4096 May 10 12:35  2TBEmby
drwxrwxrwx 1 bj bj 8192 May 10 12:35 '2tb from'
drwxrwxrwx 1 bj bj 4096 May 10 12:35  3TBEmby

thanks, Bj

Okay, did you open a terminal and run  sudo usermod -a -G bj emby?

What did you get when you tried to add the media again?

Sorry Mark. I did run that command, and I am unable to see the drives in /media/bj.

If you want we can do a teamviewer session and I can take a look for you.

Why not. Beats 6000 messages, I guess. TeamViewer is running in Chrome. I've never used it. I am logged in at the console screen, what do you need from me?

Hi Mark. I think I'm going to run Emby under Windows. I'm far more comfortable with it and Linux quirks (to me) will continue to pop up and slow me down.

I'd like to stay with Linux however I know so little about it, and I am stuck at the first step

thanks for your time.

Sorry I didn't get back to you yesterday, work got in the way.  If you want to do the teamviewer thing I am available all day today.  I'm fairly new to Linux myself and have only been running it for about a year now, and when I first started with it I had problems configuring Emby too and came close to saying screw it, but another member helped me and once I got it working I never looked back.

I am around for a few hours today. What info do you need to access my PC via Team Viewer?

I guess we need to setup an actual time, because we seem to keep missing each other when logging in.  I sent you a PM with my phone number and email address, maybe that will work better in trying to connect.

Hi Luke/Mark. Sorry for the absence. I was waylaid with some health stuff. I need as little aggravation in my life as possible so I'm just going to put Windows on the server and call it a day.

thanks for your time
