fxwegr 6 Posted May 12, 2021 Posted May 12, 2021 I have the following problem with the Emby server, which is incomprehensible to me: In the Emby display "Artists" or "Album Artists" I find, inexplicably for me, the artist "Verschiedene Interpreten" as well as the artist "Various Artists". However, all the albums/titles in question are correctly and uniformly tagged with "Various Artists" (MP3 tags). The problem does not occur with all other artists. How does this happen? How can I merge the titles that are tagged with "Various Artists" under one artist? Attached the library structure I used.
Luke 42077 Posted May 12, 2021 Posted May 12, 2021 Hi, this dats is coming from the information embedded within your audio files.
Guest Posted May 12, 2021 Posted May 12, 2021 MusicBrainZ Picard or TagScanner would be good choices to edit this data.. and view all tags and versions of metadata.. It would seem to be in PERFORMERS tag without looking at it.. Languages changes how they are written or the meaning.. so I make the assumption because a performers tag exist as extended standard in ID3v2.4 tags.. You would need to remove unwanted tags and edit them the same for the album(s) in question with the same desired information.
fxwegr 6 Posted May 12, 2021 Author Posted May 12, 2021 Well, of course I checked that first. Definitely all audio files are tagged with "Various Artist" and not with "Verschiedene Interpreten". I have been using "Tag&Rename" for tagging for years with good success. I am faced with a riddle. Does anyone have an idea how to get to the bottom of this? OK, I want to give TagScanner a try. Thanks!
Guest Posted May 12, 2021 Posted May 12, 2021 I would look in the EDIT tab of TagScanner.. and click on 'Advanced' at the top.. This may reveal something you are not seeing with the other program.. There is also a feature to remove tags in the top toolbar.. where you can remove the selected tag types.. Also in options you have the choice to update all version of tags.. I would advise using that as well.. it may solve the issue.
fxwegr 6 Posted May 12, 2021 Author Posted May 12, 2021 Hi Luke I think in the meantime it is a problem for the Emby developer. I have attached two screenshots: One shows one of my problematic audio files and its tags, the other shows the associated Emby metadata. Please have a look at it. I think the problem is with the database and its management.
Guest Posted May 12, 2021 Posted May 12, 2021 What does it show under 'Erweiterte' next to 'Standard'? I also show the tags @UTF-16 instead of UTF-8... I have seen issues with the tags being read properly in this format.. Can you upload the file here for a test? As an attachment?
fxwegr 6 Posted May 12, 2021 Author Posted May 12, 2021 Below is what is displayed under "Erweiterte". Also the files for a test. Thank you for your interest. CD4.zip
Guest Posted May 12, 2021 Posted May 12, 2021 (edited) Try this one out.. EDIT: We can remove these files from our attachments after we are done too BTW.. I did two things to the files in question.. ONLY.. TagScanner was setup to save as UTF-8, so I selected and saved no changes.. and then I removed ID3v1.1 tags from the file. Edited May 13, 2021 by Guest
fxwegr 6 Posted May 13, 2021 Author Posted May 13, 2021 Good morning from Germany, I have tested your CD4-modified file. Unfortunately without a positive result. I have made two attempts: Attempt 1: Replaced CD4 in my library with CD4-modified. Rescanned the library. Result: No positive result. Attempt 2: CD4 deleted from my library. Rescan the library. Check whether the file is still in the library - It is not. CD4 (the modified) added to the library again. Rescanned the library. Result: No positive result. The database contents seem to remain unchanged. Why? Yes, you can remove the attachments, not that we still get problems there.
pünktchen 1409 Posted May 13, 2021 Posted May 13, 2021 Does Musicbrainz return translated results for Various Artists? As a test re-add your cd with disabled metadata providers.
Guest Posted May 13, 2021 Posted May 13, 2021 (edited) Actually we should be able to look it up on MusicBrainz.. I am not actually able to find this release anywhere.. sort of strange.. unlikely it is returning results from online resources.. unless AudioDB.. Have you tried removing the album from the music directory PATH.. waiting for it to delete.. Then dropping it back into the Library. EDIT: I had Ministry of Sound - Twenty Years XX do this to me after I edited the album names ( 4 CD's with individual names separate art and a main album art, changed to subtitle names and main album name correct album art ) and fixed featuring to title instead of Artist.. Then I renamed the files because I used Artist - Title format.. The ones that had been altered separated out in the same releases like they were supposed to and the rest stayed in separate albums.. no matter what I did.. After one of the updates though, EMBY decided to rescan.. and now they all show up like they are supposed to.. so I dunno.. Edited May 13, 2021 by Guest
fxwegr 6 Posted May 13, 2021 Author Posted May 13, 2021 So the CD was and is not available on the open market. It was a gift from a business partner, made especially for him. I will deal with the proposed test tomorrow.
fxwegr 6 Posted May 14, 2021 Author Posted May 14, 2021 I have carried out the suggested tests - without success. I could not find the cause of the problem, but I was able to find a workaround. Again the description of the situation: Emby recognises a total of 57 sampler albums. For all sampler albums the albumartist ID3-tag is set to "Various Artists". From this inventory Emby generates two different Albumartists namely: Various Artists and Verschiedene Interpreten 3 albums are assigned to the albumartist "Various Artist". The album artist "Verschiedene Interpreten" is assigned 54 albums. In the case of various albums, I could see that individual traks of this album were assigned to the albumartist "Verschiedene Interpreten", but others were assigned to the albumartist "Various Artists". So the album was split between two different albumartists. The workaround: I changed the ID-3 tag "Album Artist" of the 3 albums that were assigned to the albumartist "Various Artists" from "Various Artists" to "Verschiedene Interpreten" and rescanned the library. After that, all sampler albums were under the album artist "Verschiedene Interpreten". The album artist "Various Artists" had disappeared. The whole thing looks very strange. I have the strong impression that the Emby logic is not quite clean at this point. Thanks you for all your help.
Guest Posted May 14, 2021 Posted May 14, 2021 I would not have caught this off-hand... Album Artist and albumartist are two different tags...
Luke 42077 Posted May 23, 2021 Posted May 23, 2021 @fxwegr please try this again with the Emby Server 4.6 release. Thanks !
fxwegr 6 Posted May 26, 2021 Author Posted May 26, 2021 Hi Luke, regarding the problems reported in this thread, everything looks good. However, I have noticed a new problem: In the favourites, the favourite songs are displayed twice. Please have a look at the attached screenshot. Regards
fxwegr 6 Posted May 26, 2021 Author Posted May 26, 2021 The fullscan does not change the situation. It looks like emby creates for an album track one entry for the album name, and a second entry for the album artist. Please have a look at the attached screenshot
fxwegr 6 Posted May 27, 2021 Author Posted May 27, 2021 This is for your information: I have unliked all favorite songs and re-liked one song. This was then also double. Apparently this has nothing to do with old entries in the database. Regards.

fxwegr 6 Posted May 27, 2021 Author Posted May 27, 2021 If all favorite songs have been removed and none are displayed, then the database should also be clean. Emby can only display something if this is also present in the corresponding DB table. If I then like a new song and it is displayed twice, this indicates an algorithmic problem. Twice is not a precise term here: Two favorites entries are displayed for one song, but they have different information content. If I like a song that has never been in my favorites before, it will also be shown twice. There can't be any old DB content here.
Luke 42077 Posted June 1, 2021 Posted June 1, 2021 Hi @fxwegr, please try updating to 4.6.2 once available for your platform and then run a library scan. Thanks.
fxwegr 6 Posted June 1, 2021 Author Posted June 1, 2021 Yes with pleasure. Where can I download the part? My platform is Ubuntu.
