frankmb 41 Posted May 5, 2021 Posted May 5, 2021 I am running the Emby app on a TCL Roku TV Every time I launch the app it brings me to "Sign in with Emby Connect", then I go to "Skip (Connect to server manual)", I enter the server IP (local network), choose my username and enter my password and now the app works fine. When I exit the app and start it again I need to do all of the above again. In the preferences the "Remember me" option is activated I have not changed it. Everything works fine when I use the Web app or Emby Theater This is Emby on Roku version 4.0 build 28 Roku TV software version is 9.4.0 build 4210-93 Emby server 4.5.4.0
speechles 2055 Posted May 6, 2021 Posted May 6, 2021 (edited) You might need to check the "devices" tab of your Emby server. You can safely delete all Roku devices you find there. They will recreate themselves the next time a user with that device connects. That should be all this is. Let us know if this does not solve the problem. Also, try using sign out once. If you have remember me turned on this will not really sign you out. With remember me turned on using sign out allows to enter a new server/user combination. Now after sign out (while on server select screen) press HOME on your Roku remote. Then restart the app again. That may fix it without having to recreate the device. Edited May 6, 2021 by speechles
ebr 16169 Posted May 6, 2021 Posted May 6, 2021 Hi. Also make sure the addresses shown on your Emby Server dashboard are correct.

I tried deleting the Devices and restarting the server (restarted the docker container) and this didn't work I also tried signing out from within the app as you suggested and it didn't work.

ebr 16169 Posted May 6, 2021 Posted May 6, 2021 So, when you enter the address manually in the Roku app, you are entering 192.168.1.5?
frankmb 41 Posted May 6, 2021 Author Posted May 6, 2021 Yes that's what I enter. And it will work while the app stays active. But if I press the home button and start the app again, I have to start over and enter the IP and password all over again.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted May 6, 2021 Posted May 6, 2021 Don't know if it will help but have you tried the Reset setting in the Emby Roku app settings? But a setting is stuck somewhere in your environment. Unless this is a TV issue, as I can't reproduce on my Ultra.
ebr 16169 Posted May 6, 2021 Posted May 6, 2021 That's very strange. It is like it is unable to save the setting and then, also, unable to find your server automatically on the network.

I also tried uninstalling the Emby app and installing again: no change. Actually when I start the app it go directly to "Sign in with Emby Connect" If I click "left" then it goes to the server selection menu where I see my server. When I choose my server, I get an error: "There was an error processing the request. Please try again later. ---- Timeout waiting for a response from the server."
frankmb 41 Posted May 6, 2021 Author Posted May 6, 2021 embyserver-63755918458.txt I'm attaching the server log. The 4 "Udp message sent" at 17:17 are 4 times I tried launching the app on my roku tv and it failed to connect. What follows is me entering again the IP and password in the app and successfully logging into Emby. My port mapping are here too. I use Unraid. 1900 is not mapped because I didn't want DLNA working. those udp messages though... they might not be leaving the docker container?
ebr 16169 Posted May 6, 2021 Posted May 6, 2021 Something is blocking something I think. Is there a VPN or proxy involved?
frankmb 41 Posted May 6, 2021 Author Posted May 6, 2021 1 hour ago, ebr said: Something is blocking something I think. Is there a VPN or proxy involved? No I don't think so. The Swag reverse proxy is involved when a connection is received from the internet and forwarded to the server. I don't think any proxy is involved here. And no vpn.
Luke 42077 Posted May 10, 2021 Posted May 10, 2021 Quote those udp messages though... they might not be leaving the docker container? It's possible that could be a culprit. You may have something in the container setup blocking the network connection. Please let us know if this helps. Thanks.
frankmb 41 Posted May 11, 2021 Author Posted May 11, 2021 Does anyone have any advice on how I could investigate this further? Is there some way to diagnose connectivity between the emby server running in docker and my roku tv?
frankmb 41 Posted May 12, 2021 Author Posted May 12, 2021 (edited) It is using a custom network ( I think it`s the same as user-defined bridge). Originally setup following this video: https://forums.unraid.net/topic/73278-video-guide-how-to-setup-and-configure-a-reverse-proxy-on-unraid-with-letsencrypt-nginx/ I'll try to change it to a regular bridge to see if it makes any difference for the roku app connection. Edited May 12, 2021 by frankmb
frankmb 41 Posted May 12, 2021 Author Posted May 12, 2021 I tried setting network type as regular "Bridge" and I get the same result.
frankmb 41 Posted May 12, 2021 Author Posted May 12, 2021 (edited) I did a system restart of the roku tv and it seems to have fixed the problem. Must have been a weird networking bug solved with the reboot. I probably should have tried that earlier lol. Now that it is working, I do not have any of those "Info App: Udp message sent to [::ffff:172.19.0.1]:38739" messages in my server log. Maybe those messages are in response to an error that was detected by the server? Edited May 12, 2021 by frankmb
Luke 42077 Posted May 12, 2021 Posted May 12, 2021 Generally I would suggest host networking mode for Docker. Thanks for the feedback.
ebr 16169 Posted May 13, 2021 Posted May 13, 2021 Did the LAN address on your dashboard change from what it was before as well?

I'm not sure I understand the question. Doing a System Restart on my roku tv fixed the problem. The LAN address on the dashboard uses the "Local IP address:" in Emby network settings. If that is not set, it becomes the docker IP address. I did a bunch of changes on my home network a few weeks ago and it is possible I had never restarted my roku tv since then.

The issue looked like the app was not able to save any information in its settings and I guess that operation fixed that. Thanks.
