Chadholland 0 Posted May 3, 2021 Posted May 3, 2021 Hi I'm trying to set up Emby as a media server in my travel trailer. Setup: Have emby server running on Wintel mini PC ( This worked correctly in the house) Have loaded the App onto LG smart TV - But Unable to find the server Connection is via travel router with no Internet, just using it to connect the 2 devices - plan to add a second TV later Is there a guide for this type of LAN only config? Thanks
Guest Posted May 3, 2021 Posted May 3, 2021 I would check your router settings and post them here.. you have a set of local IP's by default that should be used to point to everything.. also It needs to be let through the Wintel.. Technically default settings with no configuration for your network should suffice in this case. My other question is .. where do you store your media?
Luke 42083 Posted May 3, 2021 Posted May 3, 2021 The LG app doesn't have automatic server discovery like some of our other apps do. You will need to manually enter the server ip address into the app the first time you are connecting.
Chadholland 0 Posted May 3, 2021 Author Posted May 3, 2021 (edited) Re-installed the server and can now connect (I enabled Internet access at least for the interim). Seems to be extremely slow which leads me to believe its using the internet. Is internet connection required? or should I be able to do this via LAN only? or even point to point wired? Carlo 4561 Posted May 3, 2021 Posted May 3, 2021 What IP did you enter on the LG TV? What does the dashboard in Emby show for local IP?

Dashboard shows:192.168.0.103:8096 Entered server IP 192.168.0.103, able to connect but only if I have Internet access. will Emby run on a local network only without Internet access?
Carlo 4561 Posted May 3, 2021 Posted May 3, 2021 I don't have an LG TV but it could be the TV itself tries to phone home or to load/verify apps or something like that and won't function offline. I don't know but would not be surprised if that were the case. We need comments from somebody far more in the know.
ebr 16187 Posted May 4, 2021 Posted May 4, 2021 Hi. Yes our system would not require an internet connection just to connect to your server locally so I imagine this is the TV that is causing the restriction. The TV manufacturer would not have imagined that you would want to connect it to something on your local network so this just isn't a use case they would have tested or planned for.
Carlo 4561 Posted May 4, 2021 Posted May 4, 2021 Depending on the type of router you have connected to the Internet you may be able to filter based on IP or MAC and watch specific outbound/inbound traffic from the LG TV. In this way if possible you could see directly if it's doing a check like this.
rbjtech 5284 Posted May 4, 2021 Posted May 4, 2021 Simple to test - just remove the gateway address on the TV (you may need to set it to a static IP). If nothing then works on the TV - then you know it is dependent on an internet connection. 1
Carlo 4561 Posted May 4, 2021 Posted May 4, 2021 That's a super easy way to test this. Great idea @rbjtech.
Guest Posted May 4, 2021 Posted May 4, 2021 You could always just plug in and use the PC on the TV.. ( the way I have it.. no smart TV makes me happy ).. and leave the network off the TV... This may cause you to use the Mouse and Keyboard.. maybe a mini via USB or something.. or Unified Remote will interact with windows to some extent.. BUT it work if this is the case.. You could cut the router out of the picture.

Another thing I noticed after selecting a movie, the meta data was then displayed - Took forever to load which would lead me to believe this is being pulled live from the Internet.
Guest Posted May 4, 2021 Posted May 4, 2021 Its either that or your TV is doing something each time you load something. My phone does this a little bit over wireless.. but the browser is older on the phone... Octacore with 3 GB Ram.. but it is the original Edge Browser... on 5GHz you would think this would not be such and issue.. I find myself waiting for several seconds.. ( more than 10 sometimes ) To load a movie page... On the same system ( as the server ) its a lot faster. Found this.. Fosmon 23022KB Mini Portable Lightweight Wireless QWERTY Keyboard - Black/Orange for sale online | eBay probably will get one soon.. LOL.. My remote needs these days have changed... Volume Control and everything.. Was conflicted about Unified Remote.. It has a navigational remote and has a basic media remote.. but you have to switch.. and no actual remote for EMBY... ( which I would have to pay for to open the app )
