Learning_Curve 9 Posted April 30, 2021 Posted April 30, 2021 Hi, I have this issue where I have to log in repeatedly in a single session. I can't even watch a single episode of a show (20-45 minutes) without needing to go back to the home page and sign in again if I decide to back out and watch something else. Never mind a movie or something. Why is this timing out so fast? I don't use remote access at all - just my home LAN. Is there a way to disable log in requirements from LAN addresses? Just using vanilla Emby 4.5.4.0, in Firefox 88.0 on Manjaro Linux.
ebr 16347 Posted April 30, 2021 Posted April 30, 2021 Hi. Have you blocked cookies or have something in your browser clearing browsing data?
Learning_Curve 9 Posted April 30, 2021 Author Posted April 30, 2021 Well, firefox is set to clear history on close, but if I'm still watching something in the window, it can't be closed. Right? I also have it set to reject 3rd party cookies, both in FF and in ublock. But that's not a third-party cookie, I wouldn't think. And I have emby whitelisted in ubo.

ijurado 0 Posted April 30, 2021 Posted April 30, 2021 Has anyone been able to unlock their account the same day after it’s been locked? 1
Learning_Curve 9 Posted April 30, 2021 Author Posted April 30, 2021 I don't know. I've never turned it off. If that were the issue, would I be able to log in at all? If the window is open and I'm watching something in it, how would clear on close affect it? Why would I need to enable 3rd party tracking for a service running on a computer running in another room on my own LAN? Does Emby rely on 3rd party cookies? I'm watching the connection in wireshark, and I don't see any connections for emby other than to the computer running it. With very, very few exceptions, if a website or service stops functioning without use of 3rd party cookies, I just stop using that website/service. But I'll try and see if that makes a difference.

Learning_Curve 9 Posted May 2, 2021 Author Posted May 2, 2021 So, as an update: Re-enabling 3rd party cookies has no effect on this behavior. Interestingly, I managed to catch my being booted in the Activity segment of the Dashboard. (Pic attached.) Relevant lines from the log in 2nd image (Can't c&p from log for some reason).
Luke 42270 Posted May 2, 2021 Posted May 2, 2021 There's got to be a browser option or extension causing this. On a default, vanilla install of firefox you're not going to run into this behavior.
Learning_Curve 9 Posted May 2, 2021 Author Posted May 2, 2021 I've added my local emby address to the Exceptions list for clear-on-close in FF. I think what's happening is that with two windows open - one for Emby and another for browsing - whenever I close the browsing window, history is being cleared, wiping the cookie for the session still in use in the other window. I don't think it's supposed to work like that, but here were are. I'll post back if it ends up being a fix.
Learning_Curve 9 Posted May 2, 2021 Author Posted May 2, 2021 It looks like that was the fix - adding my local emby server address:port to the 'exceptions' in FF's Settings>Privacy>Clear History tab. It hasn't asked me to log in for like 3 hours now.
