MrGiles 2 Posted April 29, 2021 Posted April 29, 2021 I have a large collection of photos, all named and sorted in folders. When viewing photos by folder, the photos can be sorted by filename (I prefix every one with a number to keep them in the order I want) and this works fine. However, when I tick the "Title" box under the show fileds option, the file name of the photos in that folder still doesn't show when I view the photos in that folder. All that changes is that some extra space appears on the screen below each photo, which is where I'd guess the title name should appear, but nothing shows. Am I wrong in assuming that ticking the Show Fields / Title option should show the filename of the photo? If it's not designed to show the filename, what is it for, and is there a way I can get Emby to show the filename when viewing photos?
Guest Posted April 29, 2021 Posted April 29, 2021 (edited) This to me would sound like a Nice option to be available as a feature request.. In order to show this data you will have to address the file metadata in the photos.. There should be a program around for that.. Just not for sure which one off the top of my head.. but that should be what your looking for. You may be even able to populate this field from the filename in the program. This looked really promising.. Photos Exif Editor- Batch Photo Metadata Editor for Windows and other platforms.. Edited April 29, 2021 by Guest
MrGiles 2 Posted April 29, 2021 Author Posted April 29, 2021 I'm not sure I understand what file metadata in the photos would need adding / changing in order to display the name of the photo. When I open the metadata manager in Emby, the only relevant fields appear to be "Title" and "Sort Title". The Title is already populated with the file name, whilst Sort Title is blank. I've tried entering something in Sort Title but that doesn't display either. So what is the point of the 'Show Fields' section in the Settings if the fields you tick don't actually show? Am I missing something obvious?
Carlo 4561 Posted April 29, 2021 Posted April 29, 2021 Edit the media itself so the meta data in the file is correct is what I think he is saying.
Guest Posted April 29, 2021 Posted April 29, 2021 @cayars Right that is what I was saying.. EXIF data is usually what needs to be populated within the files.. I am wondering however if title is being ignored in EMBY for photographs.. or if it is supporting the data if it is not being displayed in the server..
MrGiles 2 Posted April 29, 2021 Author Posted April 29, 2021 Sorry guys, but none of these answer my question. I would need to know exactly what EXIF data Emby is using to display the name of the photo. And what does the "Title" field point to if it's not the filename? Or is it that Emby simply doesn't have the capability to display the name of a photo? In which case why does it give you this option under "Show Fields"? Incidentally, if I tick the "Year" box under Show Fields, it does then display the year under each photo.
mtjj 31 Posted April 29, 2021 Posted April 29, 2021 I think Emby "Title" populates with the Exif field "Title", not the filename. At least that's what it is doing for me. I'm sure, in a previous version, it used to show the filename, so this seems to have changed at some point. 1
Luke 42085 Posted May 8, 2021 Posted May 8, 2021 I did actually find an issue with this and it will be resolved in the next set of app updates. thanks. 1
