timconinx 0 Posted April 26, 2021 Posted April 26, 2021 Hi Can you tell if there's anything wrong with my transcoding log. Quality is visibly going down during "fast scenes", and when I check the same video on Plex my server seems to be okay with it. Both on Windows-Chrome and on NVidia Shield TV this problem exists. I already tried tweaking the transcoding options to 'veryslow' encoding preset, and '18' on encoding CRF. Another thing I noticed is that when I start playing a video with a different language than the default, the video loads, skips, and then chooses the default language anyhow, until I change it again from the settings while playing. Thanks for any advice Tim ffmpeg-transcode-3aa44207-5da4-41b4-bc02-9eae32df001e_1.txt
Luke 42078 Posted April 27, 2021 Posted April 27, 2021 Hi there, as a test, if you disable hardware transcoding in server transcoding settings, how does that compare?
timconinx 0 Posted April 27, 2021 Author Posted April 27, 2021 Hi This... actually solved it for me, thank you! I'll attach the transcode log (for the same video) here, because I suspect this is not normal behaviour Thanks again! Tim ffmpeg-transcode-71a0b624-5fcb-42e7-a357-d2c2c93cf667_1.txt
Luke 42078 Posted April 27, 2021 Posted April 27, 2021 Hi, well that was just a test, not necessarily the solution. Is Plex also hardware transcoding? I would find that out. If they are not, then yes we can consider it case closed.
timconinx 0 Posted April 27, 2021 Author Posted April 27, 2021 I went to check, and it seems that I indeed forgot to enable the general 'use hardware acceleration when available' setting while still having fiddled around with the other lesser hardware settings... And yes, enabling the general setting causes the quality to decrease considerably on Plex as well Silly me, case closed, thanks for the fast support!
Luke 42078 Posted April 27, 2021 Posted April 27, 2021 Ok so the difference is we enable it by default whereas they do not. Thanks for the feedback !
