JimmyS01 0 Posted April 24, 2021 Posted April 24, 2021 (edited) I am having an issue getting emby to sort the different version of atleast one movie so far. I am using this naming convention. Movie (year) - 1. HD Movie (year) - 2. HD Black-White Movie (year) - 3. 4K Movie (year) - 2. 4K Black-White But in emby it sorts like this: Movie (year) - 2. HD Black-White Movie (year) - 1. HD Movie (year) - 3. 4K Movie (year) - 2. 4K Black-White I've tried changing the numbers around on them but the "hd black-white" is always on top. Any ideas what might be wrong here? I have attached one image from the folder op the file. The folder names is Movie (year) and one image of the sorting in Emby Edited April 24, 2021 by JimmyS01 attached smaller second picture

crusher11 1102 Posted April 24, 2021 Posted April 24, 2021 There is no "sort". Emby picks the one that will play most efficiently on the device you're using.
JimmyS01 0 Posted April 24, 2021 Author Posted April 24, 2021 kinda weird. Because before i used the numbers thing. the 4k versions on my other movies (where i only have hd and 4k) would list the 4k version at the top. Then i added the numbers and it set the HD version as first choice.
Guest Posted April 24, 2021 Posted April 24, 2021 (edited) Have you tried choosing number one (1. HD-----) .. Then playing the file for a few seconds.. and going back to the Details page.. EMBY remembers selections for most of these.. Just thinking that it could be doing the same here.. It remembers audio and Video.. and if I remember right... I had to videos.. one H264 and one H265. EMBY labelled them 4 and 5 because of the way I named them.. If I choose 5 and play.. and go back to the details page.. It shows 5... and 4 second.. If I do the opposite.. 4 shows first.. I could be very wrong this time around.. but I would check and see.. sometimes when 1-9 become 1, 10, 11, 12, 2, 3, 4, 5... You can add 0's to it and straighten things out.. Having 2 first is strange.. unless it is showing by latest added which would also be odd. In a way. Edited April 25, 2021 by Guest

Hi, it depends on settings in the app that would affect video playback, settings in the server, etc. Please let us know if this answers your question. Thanks.
emby_fan 2 Posted April 25, 2021 Posted April 25, 2021 @Luke I‘ve the same interest like Jimmy. Could you name us the settings we‘ve to select to ensure that 1. HD in the given example is preselected by default?

Thanks. Ok, i will try to look into it. Also it seems that they are sorted by overall bitrate. 1 hour ago, emby_fan said: @Luke I‘ve the same interest like Jimmy. Looking through the settings i changed around with the quality settings under playback with no difference to the "sorting". Can't seem to find any other settings under the server that i would believe could affect the order.
Guest Posted April 25, 2021 Posted April 25, 2021 Highest Bitrate on top I bet... I found the one I had this way.. I was wrong above ( edited ).

HD in the given example is preselected by default? There aren't any. It picks the best-quality version that will Direct Play. If none will Direct Play, it picks the best version to transcode. This depends on your connection and the device you're using.

I figured that if you filtered you movies for resolution it. picking HD or 4K. i will play the HD or the 4K according to what you filtered. @Luke Do you think it could be possible to add "sorting" to the version list? would make the user experience much better if a particular version could be set as default? Could be "let "emby/server" decide and "sorted by name" - something like that atleast for some on the it-neanderthal users on some of our servers.
Luke 42085 Posted April 26, 2021 Posted April 26, 2021 Hi, yes more control over this is possible for future updates. thanks for the feedback.
