n00b42 41 Posted April 24, 2021 Posted April 24, 2021 Can I change the file permissions Emby uses to create files? Currently, it seems that all files created in the media folder will get permissions: rw:r:r which prevents other users/services (like Networkshares) to delete/change/move the files. This occurs for metadata which is placed alongside media (e.g. nfo, poster.jpg) and files inserted by the Auto Organizer (e.g. Tv Series) as well
Q-Droid 989 Posted April 24, 2021 Posted April 24, 2021 (edited) You can. But if you're dealing with CIFS/SMB network shares it's better to get ownership and permissions sorted there first. The runtime umask dictates what permissions files and directories get at creation. It affects access but not ownership. The property in systemd is UMask, default value is 0022. You can also change the runtime Group identity for the emby-server so then files and directories can be created with a different group ownership. Combined they can be used to allow access by other users/services. If you decide to change group the emby user must be a member, so pick or add one first then set the value for systemd. systemctl edit emby-server.service [Service] UMask=value Group=value Save and restart the emby-server service.
