For as long as I can remember, I used folder structure as such

File name is:

Under the Dome S00E01 Inside Chester's Mill.mkv

image.png.aedbf242db72fb59e7b067e1926b9c55.png

I have about 90 TV shows that contains Special episodes along with regular seasons.

I have just noticed that within Emby, special episodes number are not displayed.

This seem to throw off Kodi that displays them in dupe (in special season and regular season) and wrongly tagged (episode # becomes season#)

This is s00e01 detail view, no mention of episode # to be found

Media info confirms proper structure/file naming

I've always named my specials folder Season 0... but according to this (Link) your naming should be valid.

Perhaps rename one to Season 0 to see if it then gets picked up ?

I already tried renaming "specials" folder "Season 0" and "Season 00", (removing special folder from monitored library, performing show library scan, with or without deleting nfos) the episodes number never shows up. If you go to a special episode detail view page, do you see episode # ?

Did you try to embed it?.. even at that where would it show up I guess is a good question.. I know Emby will not show it because I did do that with mine.. Not for sure which info KODI is going from though either..

Probably thinking out loud again.. if you can do that in a forum.. 😜

No - I don't see the episode number either - never noticed it tbh.

The metadata is present and correct, as is the order, it is just not displayed - and tbh, I'm not sure it would mean anything even if it did as specials are just incremental numbers - the numbers don't relate to anything.

This is normal - emby does the same.  A special may have season info in it - which tells emby (and kodi) what season the special aired in - and it's position in the sequence.

This is located in the 'Special Episode Info' part of the Metadata (only available to Specials').  If you remove it - the item will only appear in specials.

for example - in the special below - it will also appear in Season 1 and display in-between episode 15 and 16.

Yeah mine is a good example of that.. seems like KODI is not getting or using information for the specials like it should be...May have to redo screenshot..

States as being Season 0... and has a TVDB ID Number attached to it.

In Kodi - S01 is Special 01 - Not Season 01 ... ?

What does the 'special' metadata say for special 01 in emby ?

I expect it says Airs during Season 1, Airs before blank or Zero ?

Here's the top portion of metadata info ( I was expecting Emby to use that info)

Here the special area (which honestly I didnt knew existed until 5 minutes ago)

"Remove it" what ?

Also, notice in my example, I do not have a "Air during season", yet my case it shows up (in Kodi) both in specials and in season 1 (Not expected/desirable at all)

I searched a bit for an Emby option about special episode and found only this (last line) which is unchecked (and has always been).

Emby does not show specials within season, but kodi does, and its supposed to take emby data "as is"

ok - so emby is doing what you have asked for (not showing in seasons) but Kodi is picking this up and displaying it.  I think the issue is with Kodi, not emby .. as everything 'looks' to be correct from a metadata perspective.

ps - by remove it - I mean delete the entry, be it zero or whatever and then save the metadata.  Worth seeing if Kodi then removes it from season 1 as it will obviously just use the .nfo

Yes Kodi manages it's own copy of the database clientside therefore you'll need to configure a corresponding option there.
