an SRT is a subtitle type file, which accompanies a video file. These can be embedded into the container ( sometimes a different type of file )... or as an external file. In this file, there is basic text for timing and print to be displayed.

When you have colors or italicized print.. bold .. so on.. There is accompanying basic code which indicates it.

1
00:01:16,535 --> 00:01:18,665
Sir, shoals on every side.

2
00:01:19,538 --> 00:01:20,708
Sand or reef, <i>I cannot say.</i>

3
00:01:23,542 --> 00:01:26,542
<font color=”#00ffff”>Captain, the malay pirates
  have us cornered.</font>

If it is like line 1.. then the display is white and applies characteristics you have indicated in the program... ( sometimes a wide range of variable from program to program which are global for the whole file, unless otherwise coded.

Line 2 shows an example of italicized print..

Line 3 Color

There are. There are a coupe of plugins you can use in EMBY... There is a current one(s) for BETA installations, and current.

OpenSubtitles plugin is supported in the current installations and come with it.. and Subf2m  which is manually added to EMBY.. pretty easy.. Usually a task will download subtitles by hash check as a scheduled task.

You can also search Subscene ( which has been my choice for a while now ). They usually have a colored option in some of the results..

Setup Subf2m will see how it does download things auto-magically :)

When you search in  Subscene, how do you see a colored subs ?

The emby user interface for searching subtitles does not contain any information about that.

Luke is correct, there isn't anything in the user interface about colored subtitles...

For colored subtitles it is in the description at the site itself... so at the right of the listed subtitle.

Subf2m

Same type of listings are at Subscene..
