access 11 Posted April 22, 2021 Posted April 22, 2021 Hello! I have searched many topics regarding this and I can see and have read a lot of people having problems similar, I've read the solutions, but I just can't seemingly get it to work and it's been confusing me for a few months. I'm currently going through the arduous task of trying to classify Evangelion. Very difficult series to collect. My Anime Library is mixed media has two folders; * anime/movies/ * anime/tv-series/ I want to see the movies appear as "Additional Parts" like how this film appears as; My folder is; anime/movies/Neon Genesis Evangelion Death and Rebirth (1997)/Neon Genesis Evangelion Death and Rebirth (1997) [BR-Rip 8btis x264 1080p AAC][ENG] - CD1.mkv anime/movies/Neon Genesis Evangelion Death and Rebirth (1997)/Neon Genesis Evangelion Death and Rebirth (1997) [BR-Rip 8btis x264 1080p AAC][ENG] - CD2.mkv anime/movies/Neon Genesis Evangelion Death and Rebirth (1997)/Neon Genesis Evangelion Death and Rebirth (1997) [BR-Rip 8btis x264 1080p AAC][ENG] - CD3.mkv All three parts have the CD-1, CD-2, CD-3 suffix but Emby keeps seeing them as seperate films, and I wonder if it's because its in a Mixed Media. Can anyone suggest what I am doing wrong with the naming convention? Thanks all.
pwhodges 2012 Posted April 22, 2021 Posted April 22, 2021 The movie name before the -cd# must be identical to the folder name - you have left in all the technical info in brackets as part of the movie name but not the folder. Paul P.S. I really wouldn't set up Evangelion that way, though! I have the series in the TV series library in a "Season 1" folder (with the DC episodes as alternate versions) and with Death(true²) and EoE (which is alternate versions of eps 25 & 26, after all) alongside in the "Specials" folder (which I've actually named "Movies"). If you want the earlier versions of Death and Renewal I'd either put them in a different specials folder with a non-standard name so it doesn't get combined, or as alternate versions. The Theatrical movies ("Rebuild") I have as three (so far) films in the movies library, brought together as a collection. This helps emphasise that they are a separate telling of a different story. 2
access 11 Posted April 22, 2021 Author Posted April 22, 2021 (edited) Thanks for responding pwhodges, I changed the names; Neon Genesis Evangelion Death and Rebirth (1997)/ Neon Genesis Evangelion Death and Rebirth (1997) - CD1.mkv Neon Genesis Evangelion Death and Rebirth (1997) - CD2.mkv Neon Genesis Evangelion Death and Rebirth (1997) - CD3.mkv This hasn't had the desired effect, it's caused them to be "Merged" as different versions. This hasn't produced the same effect as the "Additional Parts" as show above. Hmmm Edited April 22, 2021 by access
pwhodges 2012 Posted April 22, 2021 Posted April 22, 2021 I don't have anything set up like that now, but when I tried it (using "part#"), it worked, but I disliked the result. The example in the naming guide has no space after the "-", so maybe you could try changing that? Another constraint is that there must be no other files in that folder. Or maybe it's a problem with "cd" specifically - try using "dvd" or "part" instead and see if that works. After all, they're not CDs, are they! Paul 1
Solution access 11 Posted April 22, 2021 Author Solution Posted April 22, 2021 Thanks so much! I've been nervous about using anything but CD as thats all I've seen work but I did read the others worked as well. I tried using PART and removing the space and it did not solve my problem. I *have* solved my problem and I did not provide enough information here. I just noticed the middle part the "intermission" was a mp4 not an mkv. So the "Additional Parts" mechanism only seems to work when the media files are all of the same file type. Not sure that's really necessary but I converted the file to mkv and now it works beautifully! I'm not sure you understood how I wanted to store it, for Death and Rebirth, I wanted the three parts; Death Intermission Rebirth The allows the skip mechanism to work. I really like this approach for all the "Double Feature" media. Once again, thanks for your help!
pwhodges 2012 Posted April 22, 2021 Posted April 22, 2021 I see the point of the three-part split of Death & Rebirth, sort of. But as Rebirth is simply an incomplete unfinished edit of EoE, I really do not see the necessity of viewing it at all; it was only released at all to keep up interest during the longer than hoped production of the complete EoE. Similarly the earlier versions of Death, which presented new material originally, but had that removed once the material concerned was edited into its proper places in the DC episodes. There's an argument for splitting EoE itself, as was actually done for the Laserdisc release which explicitly described the two parts as episodes 25' and 26', but that's an individual choice these days. On the rather completist Japanese Bluray release EoE is presented in both forms; but the parts are digitally identical other than the split - there are no subtle differences to nerd out over in this case. access 11 Posted April 22, 2021 Author Posted April 22, 2021 (edited) Hahaha, then you will be even more confused why I have things like the following for the previous Rebuilds. It's all mostly for academic reasons as it's good to track how things came out, in an attempt to capture something not possible to capture. Edited April 22, 2021 by access 1
pwhodges 2012 Posted April 22, 2021 Posted April 22, 2021 (edited) Well, I have that too, but didn't mention it... In fact, I uploaded an optimised version of one of the earlier captures of the public showing of that to a well-known torrent site. Paul PS - I guess you realise that my avatar here is Shinji (from the volume of settai for the series). Edited April 22, 2021 by pwhodges 1
