Emby installed on a VM of DSM

I've recently bought into Synology and have set up a VM of DSM to provide an install that can be used to test different apps, use third party apps etc that may cause issues with the main NAS.

I was wondering if anyone has installed their main Emby server on a VM?  Are there are any downsides?

Potential upsides I see are that the server could be migrated to another NAS if necessary; the VM can be kept on an earlier release DSM in the situation where a DSM update cause issues with Emby.

Hi, the downside of a VM is typically performance as well as direct access to hardware features such as hardware accelerated transcoding. That may require some setup on your part to ensure that Emby Server has access to the gpu if you want to use that.

thanks @Luke.  I have to say the apps I currently have installed on the VM run very smoothly.  Regarding hardware transcoding, my NAS doesn't offer that anyway.  I may test it out.  Just curious if anyone has any personal experience.
