adoteq 0 Posted April 12, 2021 Posted April 12, 2021 Hi, I discovered that only 56% of cpu usage occurs when running a transcode. When diving deeper into Emby transcode settings, I found out that only 16 threads where listed, whilest I have 32 threads in my processor. This can either be caused by NUMA problem in the emby software, or Emby isn't listing the thread count of my cpu but instead listing the core count. Can someone please solve this problem. I cannot get a single transcode to use more cpu then 56%. Awaiting your response, Joannes Wyckmans
Carlo 4561 Posted April 12, 2021 Posted April 12, 2021 Hi the amount of threads that ffmpeg uses depends a lot of codecs used. Often times there is a limit to the amount of useful threads that can be used so throwing more threads doesn't help and can actually start to hurt performance. With it only using about half of your CPU you can easily handle another transcode going full bore transcoding.
Luke 42083 Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 Hi, the config screen only goes up to 16 right now. Yes we can look at that, but I would just leave it at default and Emby Server will allow ffmpeg to use as many threads as it can. You would only use the setting if you wanted it to be something less than that. Please let us know if this helps. Thanks.
