Run emby as a docker on Synology and you’ll have 0 issues installing plugins

I guess that is my problem, I use the Emby SPK file. Do you know if there is some kind of guide to move over to Docker without losing any metadata, library info, etc? I suppose that is my only real worry.

No idea. I don’t worry about things like that. I would build from scratch.  I’d assume even with the Synology version you still have access to the plugin directory and things since they have to reside on the hard drive.  Don’t you point to a config path on install of it.

Looking at the source code it looks like this plugin is just for images? I don’t see why that can’t go into the catalog.

@Lukeyes, the plugin only provides images, I would be grateful if it was included in the plugins catalog

OK please send a pm to @ebr thanks.

@jarubaloving the plugin. Just signed up for Tier 3 to test it all out. I have a weird issue though. If I move RPDB to the top of my image fetcher and keep everything else checked, images aren't replaced with the RMDB ones. If I uncheck everything else other than RPDB, it works but I lose my backgrounds and everything else other than the posters.

Does that make sense? Please let me know what I could be doing wrong.

I'd suggest using RPDB Folders app, as plugin is still somewhat limited in features/configuration in comparison, and disable Emby's internal posters and/or backdrops fetchers, seeing you're Tier 3, you can opt to get backdrops as well if you prefer.

I've got it and up and running.... but for some reason in the folders app I can't figure out how to add in the HDR/DV posters icons on top? I may just be missing it.

Thanks for the suggestion!

You mean you can't find "Add Badges/Labels" menu or you don't have that option at all (it should be under both Poster and Scan settings IIRC)?

I'm positive you already have, but just to confirm: you did successfully load your Tier 3 API key?

I did add my Tier 3 API key. I can add the badges through the Emby plugin.... but not this folders APP. It's so strange. I don't see anything for add badges/labels.... I'm guessing it's because I have the docker version of this running??? This is what I see under the poster settings.....

I can add it in manually each poster, but that seems a little crazy haha

I'm afraid @jarubawill have to revert on that one.

You can also reach him on email, as I recall he was very responsive few years back when I had some minor issues with RPDB Folders app.

No, there should be "Automatic" option as well (requiring one-time media probing).

Edit: Went to check wiki, in case that option was removed; still listed:

I think I figured it out. The only place that I could find it was in editing a folder. But that worked... now I'm just scanning multiple times as it keeps missing posters. But I love the way this looks.... 100%.

Is the free tier still working or not?

Posted (edited)

@Nabukodonosorthe free tier still works and supports the "Default Ratings" setting for poster type. Did you use the "Login" button on the ratingposterdb.com website to retrieve the key after subscribing? In your library settings make sure to have the "Keep a cached copy of images in the server's metadata folder" setting enabled, when doing a Metadata Refresh make sure to select "Replace All Images", the RPDB plugin should be at the top of the "Image Fetchers" plugins list, tell me if you continue to encounter issues and I will investigate

but I did test the free tier just now and it is retrieving posters properly, so it is definitely still active and functional

I did use the login. Got the key, entered it in the plugin, saved.

"Keep a cached copy of images in the server's metadata folder"...this was disabled for me, because the cache gets huge after a while. So, I guess this was the problem.

I can't be certain if that was the issue, I will test the plugin again (hopefully tomorrow) to make sure it works as expected with the most recent Emby version.

I just released v1.0.3.1 of the Emby plugin to the plugins store: it fixes the backdrops, adds many new settings, the tier perks are also tweaked now to offer more features for all tiers (the website was not yet updated to reflect these tier changes), a "setup instructions" link was added to help new users and "preview poster" / "preview backdrop" links were also added to be able to see how the images will look before needing to refresh the metadata of items or libraries. The new plugin release has been tested with the latest version of Emby server and web UI.

I took the time to look into some of the issues users had with images not downloading or downloading slowly and this seems to happen when the server has IPv6 enabled, disabling IPv6 seems to solve the issues. (i added this to the setup instructions also) I found a few other forum posts regarding IPv6 issues and slow image downloads from plugins (even image downloads timing out) dating back as far as 2018, it seems that those issues were never resolved.

The "RPDB Folders" app that works with Emby too was also recently updated to support all new features.

I just paid and got my api, loaded it up in emby, made my selections for posters and such, Im trying to follow the directions that states to :

  • go to Settings > Server > Library
  • hover the libraries that you want to use RPDB with
  • click the "..." to access the library's settings
  • scroll down to "Movie Image Fetchers" (for series this is "Series Image Fetchers")
  • enable the RPDB plugin from the list
  • move the RPDB plugin to the top of the "Movie Image Fetchers" list

problem is when i go to the ... menu there is no option for movie image fetchers, am i missing something?

Hi, can you show a screenshot of what you do see? Thanks.

Have you clicked "Edit" in three-dot menu there?

(Hint: Left-clicking library thumb will take you to same library setup dialog.)

@avispaHi, in the web app from Emby, you must first press the settings button (cog icon) in the upper right corner, then from the left side menu press the "Library" button (under "Emby Server"), then when hovering a library image you will see an icon with 3 dots to the bottom right of the image, press that and then "Edit", now scroll down and you will see "Movie Image Fetchers" in this menu

There was another Emby user that got stuck in the same place, which indicates that the instructions are not clear enough, I will attempt to make them clearer and include screenshots.
