sonusfaber 17 Posted April 5, 2021 Posted April 5, 2021 The main reason I am looking into Emby is the trascoding features, so I can connect from remote, through VPN, to my home server, using a mobile connections (4G+, LTE). Every time I start Emby, it takes 2 or 3 minutes to become available. Once it is available I can browse my movies and watch them in very short time (matter of seconds). The speed is about 25/30 Mbps. Why this behaviour? Any suggestion? Thanks
Luke 42077 Posted April 5, 2021 Posted April 5, 2021 Hi, what do you mean by when you start Emby? Do you mean when you start the server?
sonusfaber 17 Posted April 5, 2021 Author Posted April 5, 2021 Thanks Luke, no... when I start the client. It takes 2 or 3 minutes before I can see the home page with my collections. If I do the same test (same client, same server) but on my Gbps Ethernet LAN... it takes some seconds, not minute, so I suppose that the root cause is the mobile connection, even if I have 25 or 30 Mbps. Maybe the latency? Anyway, once the clients is started, then I can play, pause, stop, jump to other media, browse etc. without any significative difference even if on mobile and VPN versus pure LAN.
sonusfaber 17 Posted May 18, 2021 Author Posted May 18, 2021 Sorry for the delay. I had to leave home for work for 1 month; in the meantime the trial period expired, etc. I am now back and again here. I am using Emby on Android TV, it is a Xiaomi MiBox S. Moreover I just upgraded the app and the beahviour is the same. I woud also ask another question: I purchased the app just some days ago. WHat happens if I remove and reinstall the app? Or if I swap the hardware? Do I have to pay again? thanks
Carlo 4560 Posted May 19, 2021 Posted May 19, 2021 No you do not need to pay again. As long as you set things back up using the same store credentials (ie email address) you can pull down your unlock again!

Carlo 4560 Posted May 19, 2021 Posted May 19, 2021 Yes it does. You do an UNLOCK on the first device which creates your license. Then on other device you do a RESTORE UNLOCK which retrieves your existing license. As an example on the Android TV you choose the UNLOCK menu under the account/person menu top right. Then on the next screen you have the choice of unlock app or restore unlock. Hope that helps

Maybe the latency? Hi. Even on a remote connection, it shouldn't be that slow. This sounds like maybe it is trying to re-connect to a saved address that is invalid so it times out and then re-tries a different way and gets through. When you switch networks, the saved address is correct. That's all conjecture but that's what it sounds like. If, when on the Mobile network, you manually connect using the IP address/domain name, does that load more quickly?

Carlo 4560 Posted May 20, 2021 Posted May 20, 2021 First click the UNLOCK menu choice on that menu mentioned above. That will take you to a new page which has both UNLOCK and RESTORE UNLOCK on it. Let us know if this helps.
sonusfaber 17 Posted May 20, 2021 Author Posted May 20, 2021 Got it... just tried on another Android TV: it says that mine is a PREMIER subscription and there is NO NEED to unlock... the problem is that I do not have any Premier subscription. I do not have premier but I purchased the unlock days ago and everywhere the Google account is the same. Strange!!!
Carlo 4560 Posted May 20, 2021 Posted May 20, 2021 It's likely a faulty message meaning it's unlocked vs Premiere but a dev will need to look at this. @ebr

sonusfaber 17 Posted May 20, 2021 Author Posted May 20, 2021 Checked again to be more precise: I have 3 Andorid TV box: 2 of them are Xiaomi Mi Box S and 1 is an nVidia Shield TV. I need Emby only on 1 of them that is in my second house where there is no Internet DSL and I use a MikroTik mobile ethernet router connected to my primary home with a site to site VPN. In the above condition using Kodi is too difficult to run because of SMB\CIFS over internet, while Emby uses streaming protocols and it works well. So, the Xiaomi in the second house has Emby and it is licesed. OK. The Emby app on the the other Xiaomi and on the Shield is not licensed and the trial expired. Opening Emby on the above 2 Android TV, the message is that the trial expired. Trying to buy another license it says there is no need because I am running Emby server with active Premier; trying to restore the unlock it says that it can not restore. I am just curious because on my LAN I use Kodi... Would you be willing to PM me the public IP address of your server? You don't need to make a login for me or allow me in, just the address. Thanks.

It says that, having the server an active Premier subscription, there is no need to buy the unlock for the app, BUT... if I wish anyway to do this, then mi licensed device will not decrease the number of devices that can connect to the server (I imagine that Emby server with Premier allow a max number of devices... but not sure) 5 minutes ago, ebr said: Does this device have an internet connection and can it connect to the Google Play store? Sure! 4 minutes ago, ebr said: Would you be willing to PM me the public IP address of your server? You don't need to make a login for me or allow me in, just the address. Thanks. What? The server can access the Internet because the Cisco firewall installed at my home allows it, but there is a NAT and Emby server's ports are not forwarded and I have no intention to open my network to the world... to access my network a VPN client is needed and I should provide the certificate for that together with an account.

Okay then, in the "config" folder under your emby server install directory, there is a file called "mb.lic". Would you mind sending that to me in a PM?
