Hello.

Can I somehow force that the library scan does not take the title from the internet database when scanning, but instead uses the local file name (without extension) or folder name as title?

This would be helpful, because I named the movies in the way they should be sorted and displayed.

It would be to much work to alter the titles manually.

Thank you for a hint.

Hi, couldn't you also disable internet metadata for the library, or do you not want to lose that?

Thanks for the response.

It's just the filename-title I want to keep; all other information should come from online sources.

Do you have another idea? (probably an undocumented flag ;) )

thx!

Or is there a way to generally prevent that the title attribute is changed by automatic library scans?

So I would alter the titles manually, if I can be sure that they are not changed if I update the metadata later.

Hi.  If you enable saving to NFO files and the edit the titles, they will be saved next to your media and should survive a refresh.  You can also lock the Name field so it doesn't change.

However, I'm not sure I would suggest doing this.  You say you like the names for sorting but there are lots of ways to sort items and that is the point of a system like Emby - so that you can sort, filter organize and view your items in different ways.  Our sorting is pretty standard but, if you want custom sorting by name, you could just modify the sort name fields.

We do have a long-standing feature request to have an option to display original titles, so perhaps when that gets done we can make it a three way option to also select showing file names.

Hello there. I'm new to Emby.

I would like to have the option for the original filename as well. I've seen request for that feature from 2015. Now 6 years later it's still a long standing feature request?

I could be wrong but imo that means, it will never get done, or is it? Because after 6+ years you either can't or won't.

Thanks in advance.

If you wish to see filenames you can:

1. Change the titles by editing the metadata for the film.
2. Use a "Home videos & photos type library.
3. Remove all matching from whatever library you are using.

I use #3 for much of my cartoon library as I have found no metadata providers that have decent matching for much of my old cartoons.

But, in reality, for all "regular" content Emby's matching is quite good if your content is named and structured correctly. Just follow the Emby directions for naming and structuring and, mostly, you will have no, or at least few, problems.

When I first switched to using a media manager (Plex first then the much better Emby) I fought the very idea that my naming might be "wrong" for getting the names correct like my life depended on it because it was perfectly understandable for me. It finally got through my rock hard skull that computers can have a very hard time understanding names that are perfectly understandable to humans.

Since my library was rapidly becoming too large for me to manage the way I had been managing it I decided, with much kicking and screaming and even crying, to rename and restructure my entire library. It took a bit of time but it saved me from all the work of trying to continue to "do it my way."

It has turned out to be well worth the effort. Now I can add a movie or TV episode simply by naming them correctly and moving the file to the correct place in my library and Emby does all the rest 99.5% of the time. From time to time I do have to fix a poor match but that is quite rare and often my fault rather than Embys.

The bottom line is that I have found it easier to name and structure as Emby wants rather than fighting to make it work my way.

Of course a lot of that does not apply for films I make. For those I just use a home videos type of library and do it all myself.

I hope that at least points you to a solution that works for you.
