HellRazor379 0 Posted April 5, 2021 Posted April 5, 2021 Hello everyone! New to the community... read quite a few posts here but haven't been able to find any relating to the problems I'm experiencing. Also read some guides but I feel like i'm missing some basic knowledge here... if you could point me in the right direction I'd greatly appreciate it! I have TBs of content that I'm trying to use... I was able to get my movies into a usable format, but my TV shows seem just so jacked up I don't even know how to tackle this. I tried adding them to two different libraries. One is a mixed media, one is a tv show library... they don't even show up under the tv show library. If the Mixed Media library: lots of shows don't even show up. when I manually search for them, i can find them, but it seems they were combined with like 30+ other shows within my library? all completely unrelated... but it won't play or show up in the library until after I hit Split Version Apart Is there a way to split all my content apart automatically? I don't think I have enough media where this option would help to make it worth the head ache Is this an issue with the file names or the meta data being automatically populated? My Mixed Media Library has multiple folder levels... Movies/Shows/Music Folders =>Movie Series/TV Show/Artist =>Movie File/Seasons/Albums => Individual Episodes/Songs. When I click Shows, the next screen lists out the various TV shows under the header Seasons. Would like this to accurately recognize these as the shows instead... similar to the level above it I think this is due to each show being viewed as a Season, but would like the option to Identify each show... this option is missing when I hit the 3 dots. the contents of each of these "Seasons" include episodes from other shows even though it is clearly labeled with the show. Is there any way that I could disable whatever algorithm is attempting to help me and just view these files as I have them organized? Lots of episodes are missing due to the Split Version Apart issue I mentioned above. Again, I apologize if this information is somewhere... spent many hours looking around but couldn't find a fix. I think my real issue stems from starting off with so many files... Movies started off as an issue for me, but I was able to manipulate them enough to get it to work but the TV Shows just seem like far too much work... really hoping there is a way to work smarter instead of harder. I appreciate any assistance that can be provided!

arrbee99 1817 Posted April 5, 2021 Posted April 5, 2021 Can't offer much except inquire as to whether you saw the TV Naming help - https://support.emby.media/support/solutions/articles/44001159110-tv-naming - as far as I know, Emby still likes things pretty organised.
Guest Posted April 5, 2021 Posted April 5, 2021 (edited) Actually that whole first page would be a good place to start.. Media Preparation : Emby TagScanner, MetaX, Advanced Renamer or FileMenu Tools and RED2 ... as well as this little batch script.. Create Folders using Filenames - Tools and Utilities - Emby Community Are some recommended tools for batch editing of files, metadata, folder structure creation, filenaming... and much more. This will help you get someting that can have metadata obtained by any program ( including Emby ) and let the software do its job. Once you have that down, I would say you should try adding in your library again.. and going from there. There are many options for viewing and filtering your media as well in Emby that should be explored, if this doesn't change the current problem completely. Edited April 5, 2021 by Guest Added RED2 to the programs list..
HellRazor379 0 Posted April 5, 2021 Author Posted April 5, 2021 Thanks for the info! So I saw those, but wasn't sure if these would fix my problems or other problems not currently concerning me... I looked through a lot of them but didn't find my specific situations in there. Was really trying to avoid a situation where I spent hours editing my files and the problem still persists... can you confirm that most of my problems likely stem from incorrectly prepared media?
arrbee99 1817 Posted April 5, 2021 Posted April 5, 2021 You're probably not asking me, but you could try posting a screenshot of some files to show some existing names, or have a go a organising, say 3 or 4 TV series and see how that goes. 1
Guest Posted April 5, 2021 Posted April 5, 2021 It technically would help if you had shares/folders for each type of media which will allow for a more accurate display.. Even say if your drive ran out of space and it is spilling onto another.. You can build your library using those folders for those types only selectively, unless it presents some other issue. We spend hours a day and countless posts on this sort of thing as well... contributing quite a bit to helping other people get these issues worked out.. So you will have to do some work more than likely.. and it may take quite a bit of your time invested. I myself ( I don't work here, BTW ) have had to comb through 150,000 files, 30,000 albums.. by hand.. with another 3200 total video files correcting metadata and refining it. This may not sound like a lot but I did it by myself and I am still working on manually fixing some issues for refinement to have a proper archive because of the variable in my own type of media. The guide is for the system to be able to identify different types of files, and have filenames work for identifying media. It DEFINITELY changes the problem. Addressing the metadata in the files, keeps changes permanent and can be read by the server. You wind up with an archive of your own media these days, which has to be organize to even browse with a file explorer, and a point of continuity. It isn't like a folder full of a bunch of junk ( like when you maybe started out with a few ripped albums and videos ).. and it grows to a size that has to be managed from a data standpoint of view.. even for the human to reasonably use it. Screenshots of your file/folder structure.. particularly where you have problems or it does not meet any of the standards for preparing your media for the server on that page. Screenshots of metadata, where your having problems in identifying your media, as mentioned above. Those two things will help us probably tell you what you probably expect to hear

If your problem is your current media structure AND you're comfortable moving files and folders around then the Auto Organize plug-in might be worth a look. The plug-in takes files from a staging folder and can move and rename them into a library using the preferred structure. The current media should not be part of any library and neither would the staging area. If you've created libraries for the existing media you can remove and create new empty libraries. If the media is on a single disk volume or drive then the plug-in can move instead of copy, so it's pretty quick. Or at least keep the staging and libraries on the same disk for faster moves. I don't think the plug-in handles music and don't know if renaming is optional. If you decide to try it and have enough storage then work from copies of the files to be safe, at least for the first few passes. Edited April 5, 2021 by Q-Droid 1
Guest Posted April 5, 2021 Posted April 5, 2021 I forgot to add this to the program list RED2.. scans and deletes all empty directories..
HellRazor379 0 Posted April 9, 2021 Author Posted April 9, 2021 Wow, thanks for all the helpful advice! Sounds like I know how to proceed... sorry for the delay, got busy and haven't had a chance to jump back into this project. I think I'll just build a new folder and slowly start moving my shows into it after fixing them... sounds like it's going to take quite some time... hopefully I can stick with it lol. Thanks again guys!
