ADD150N 1 Posted April 2, 2021 Posted April 2, 2021 Hi, could somebody clear a few things up please If I have a 25 device limit , 1, Iv read its only on active devices i.e. watching a movie, does that mean if I had 15 users all could have 10 devices logged in but then only 25 devices would play. 2, iv also read that i can limit each user to only play 1 movie at a time, but can I limit them to a set number of devices each or would it not care if the first question is yes. 3. Also the Philips hue link, when i pause my lights come on, when i play my lights go off, can I set this to only one device, because I don't wand by bedroom lights to do things if I'm watching in the living room. thank you.
ebr 16169 Posted April 2, 2021 Posted April 2, 2021 Hi. For your Premiere limit questions, does this answer them? Is there a limit to Emby Premiere
ADD150N 1 Posted April 2, 2021 Author Posted April 2, 2021 Oh no i could of sworn i saw luke had put that they were concurrent, that would have been ok, but the 25 is the total number of devices , and no way to limit uses to a set amount of devices, crazy, someone could stick emby on 15 devices and id be left with 10 for everyone else, such a shame, id be safer going with plex and having 15 users. and unlimited devices. you must be loosing so many customers with that setup, cheers. 1

That person would have to regularly use all 15 of those devices. It is assumed the people you are sharing with are your family or close friends so they won't abuse your hospitality.
Scott D 69 Posted April 2, 2021 Posted April 2, 2021 I may be wrong, but I think your interpretation is not correct. I currently have a Premier subscription and currently showing 29 devices under the devices tab. It also shows that I am "well within the limits". First thing I have found is the need for the Premier license may not go against the 25 count. Also, the count changes based on the activity of the user. If one is not used for a period of time, it falls off the count. Also, you would need a fairly powerful server with a healthy amount of bandwidth to server 25 concurrent streams. If you are setting up for family/friend use, you should have no problem. I have been doing this for a few years with no complaints or conflict with the device limit. For what it's worth!

Yes i will probably be fine. im not hoping for 25 streams, it was just an example to try and explain, im probably going for 10. possibly 15. I have an i5 8th gen nuc, 16gb corsair vengeance ram, 970 evo plus NVMe , media on a wd my book duo, 2x 8tb wd reds connected with usb-c , media is 1800 1080p mp4, 200 4k hevc . broadband is 80 down , 20 up, does that sound ok. thanks.

The 1080p are 2.2mbps and the 4k are 6mbps , they are but are actually good quality, to my eyes the same as my 4k netflix Edited April 2, 2021 by ADD150N to clear confusion
Scott D 69 Posted April 5, 2021 Posted April 5, 2021 (edited) One more thing to consider with the number of family members you will be serving, is to be aware of any data cap you may have imposed by your ISP. Seems they are all finding out that the cash cow can be milked a bit more by charging for data usage. Streaming goes up, tv subscriptions go down, didn't take them long to figure that one out. I have set my streaming limit to 3Mb/sec. Quality is sufficient for the venue. During Covid I have had to watch carefully so as not to exceed the monthly allotment and incur additional charges. If you have a true videophile/audiophile that complains, save the device slot for someone else that can appreciate what they are getting from you. EDIT - Also, after reading back again. You might want to adjust your streaming rate based on the number of concurrent users. 20Mb up will fill up quickly. I have a 350/30 and if running at wide open streaming rate, everyone gets the buffering. Edited April 5, 2021 by Scott D
