BirdBare 9 Posted April 2, 2021 Posted April 2, 2021 Hi, I just updated my sound system to support Atmos. I'm having trouble with emby. For some reason emby still converts audio to dobly surround on my system. I am however getting Atmos from netflix so I know it is not my system. Logs incomming
BirdBare 9 Posted April 2, 2021 Author Posted April 2, 2021 embyserver.txt Here is the Emby server log
Happy2Play 9783 Posted April 2, 2021 Posted April 2, 2021 More of a device issue then a server issue, but the device only returns this playback info. &VideoCodec=h264,h265,hevc&AudioCodec=ac3,eac3,aac,mp3,opus &TranscodeReasons=AudioCodecNotSupported But a dev or someone with more knowledge of this device will have to comment. May need to see the ffmpeg log also.
BirdBare 9 Posted April 2, 2021 Author Posted April 2, 2021 I feel like it must be an emby app issue. I don't understand why netflix can output atmos but emby cannot.
BirdBare 9 Posted April 2, 2021 Author Posted April 2, 2021 Is it possible that emby hardcore's codec support? Maybe the LSP9T definition needs to be updated
Luke 42083 Posted April 2, 2021 Posted April 2, 2021 Hi there, please attach the ffmpeg log as well. thanks.
BirdBare 9 Posted April 2, 2021 Author Posted April 2, 2021 Sure. Here are both again. embyserver.txt ffmpeg.txt
Solution SamES 1057 Posted April 3, 2021 Solution Posted April 3, 2021 Have a read of this article. Ignore that it references LG. Samsung and LG are the same with respect to this issue https://support.emby.media/support/solutions/articles/44001984861-why-does-the-emby-app-for-my-lg-tv-not-play-the-dolby-atmos-truehd-audio-without-transcoding- The quick summary is that there is compressed TrueHD (EAC-3 / DD+) which is the format that Netflix and other streaming services use, then there is uncompressed TrueHD which is typical on Blu-ray rips and is not supported on LG and Samsung TV’s, primarily due to the high but rates of these formats which exceed their hardware capability to transfer these streams from the TV to receivers via arc, optical or any other method
BirdBare 9 Posted April 3, 2021 Author Posted April 3, 2021 That is the dumbest thing I've ever heard! Poor design considerations from these manufacturers. Thanks for the great answer! I do have a follow-up question. Is it possible to install emby directly on my Denon avr? Or is there a emby only tv stick I can buy? I don't want all the smart apps in two different places. 1 1
Luke 42083 Posted April 3, 2021 Posted April 3, 2021 Quote Is it possible to install emby directly on my Denon avr? Hi, no. Does your Denon even have an app store?
Luke 42083 Posted April 3, 2021 Posted April 3, 2021 The Nvidia Shield can pretty much pass through everything that your audio equipment supports. You could use our app on that.

Thanks for the great answer! Agree ! The state of Audio playback these days on TV's & Streaming sticks is frankly a complete lottery - much of the 'poor design' is I'm sure commercial - but at the end of the day, it's hurting consumers so the TV/Streaming industry is not doing itself any favours. On the plus side, AVR Receivers (and the Shield) seem to be immune from this - they support as many formats as they can because the features are needed to sell the core product ..
