access 11 Posted March 30, 2021 Posted March 30, 2021 Hello! So I am not sure if there is a way to have multiple versions of the same movie with different meta data. If I include two versions of the film; \movies\Waterworld (1995)\ -- Waterworld.1995.Ulysses.Cut.1080p -- Waterworld.1995.1080p I see two versions of the film, however unless I'm mistaken it removed information such as Runtime as they are both different. Typically though as you choose each film, the Cover Art should change, the Credits could change the Description could change so it should be able to contain multiple sets of information for each version. My work around is just to use Collections such as the infamous four versions of Apocalypse Now I have just grouped as a Collection and added my own Meta data for each film. This does become messy with the Collections Plugin, take say Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. These three films now have five major versions released each and as they are added as separate films in Emby Collections plugin now has 15 films in it. The ideal solution would be to have them as 1 single Film but with different meta data, not sure if there is a feature I'm not utilizing to achieve this? Thanks! 1
Happy2Play 9780 Posted March 30, 2021 Posted March 30, 2021 (edited) Currently no the multi-version grouping is only reading from one item. There are feature request to show different info per selected version but the majority of this if should be static. https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/58541-multiple-versions-and-duration-display-windows-web-client https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/89108-different-movie-versions-refresh-chapter-list-in-grid-view Edited March 30, 2021 by Happy2Play
access 11 Posted March 30, 2021 Author Posted March 30, 2021 Thanks for the quick response! All good! You peeps are doing great.
access 11 Posted March 30, 2021 Author Posted March 30, 2021 I'd like to raise a bug then with this process related to the above. If we do store them as separate films. Under the "Continue Watching" all versions of the same film are listed no matter which version of the film you started, but you can see the Green bar going to the minute. If I in the Workprint move it to 4.5 hours the other three versions are complete so show no bar at all. If I attempt to click on one (that has finished), I get a the movie spinning forever. I think the fix is, the Continue Watching should only resume the actual version started. Cheers
Happy2Play 9780 Posted March 30, 2021 Posted March 30, 2021 There is no way for Emby to distinguish this information as all items have the exact same providerids (IMDB, TMDB, TVDB) and that is how userdata is tracked. So there is no such thing as different versions it is one item. Multi-versioning is built around quality/resolution not different cut as discussed in numerous topic. So 4 cut of Apocalypse Now will always be one item as they are the same movies.
access 11 Posted March 30, 2021 Author Posted March 30, 2021 (edited) Yep, I understand that the table that tracts userdata activity is linked on the providerids. However, uniqueID could be generated for each film added into Emby (no doubt already there as an identity) and Userdata could be linked to that so that Userdata is tracked against a specific instance within Emby rather than just returning all linked providerIds. Understand that's a major change. Just reporting the weirdness I am seeing. Thanks again! Edited March 30, 2021 by access
ebr 16184 Posted March 30, 2021 Posted March 30, 2021 I really think the ultimate solution will be that we will have to create a different presentation for different cuts of films because everything about our current versioning is based on different qualities of the same item. If you try to mix these two things you just run into so many problems like this. 2

So moving data or rebuilding your server will loose this information.
access 11 Posted March 30, 2021 Author Posted March 30, 2021 Very true Hap. I agree with ebr that mutliple sets of a single film with different metadata is the ultimate solution where the user can pick a cut of a film with different description of the edit, different cover image and run time. Thanks

Thanks But at the same time unless you are making up fake providerids, they are all still the exact same media. So watching one is watching all.
access 11 Posted March 30, 2021 Author Posted March 30, 2021 (edited) Your right. That still wont resolve the playback bug. This is an issue right now. I can see when I start watching a film with multiple versions, I can see it in the Admin Page. But it never appears in "Continue Watching" otherwise it would list both. I can't really see a way around this but using artifical IDs and linking them to the userdata. They wouldn't have to be generated every time you refresh or when you move server, only when a new version of the film is added. The downside would be if you download a higher quality version of a film, the userdata would mark this as not "watched". For me, I would see that as the correct behaviour though. access 11 Posted April 1, 2021 Author Posted April 1, 2021 (edited) Hey Luke, Attached is the Emberserver log with IP/DNS masked. The log contains me playing the 5 Hour work print for a little bit. Stopping it Then playing a shorter version. I never quite understand how the ffpmeg logs work. In the logs folder I sort by date modified and the log is always old, I've checked the top few files and I cant see any mention of Apocalypse Now. Do the logs get moved there after a certain time? I just don't understand. Thanks. embyserver.txt Edited April 1, 2021 by access

Only created if any conversion is needed, so Direct Play will not generate a ffmpeg log. 13 minutes ago, access said: Do the logs get moved there after a certain time? Logs are maintained for 3 day before they are removed. Per the system.xml <LogFileRetentionDays>3</LogFileRetentionDays>
Luke 42078 Posted April 1, 2021 Posted April 1, 2021 I don't see playback in that log but I'm guessing it tried to resume past the duration of the video due to the varying lengths between versions?
gsites 14 Posted April 1, 2021 Posted April 1, 2021 Hey guys I have a similar problem I looked in the tutorials but I couldn't get it right. Come on I have 2 files from the same film, but with different resolutions, see the names below as they are \tt8244784 514847\tt8244784 514847 A Caçada (2020) - 1080p 1920x804 6ch 2249mb 90mn 5.1.mkv \tt8244784 514847\tt8244784 514847 A Caçada (2020) - 1080p 1920x804 8ch 6047mb 7.1.mkv When the versions are grouped, to choose a movie to watch, the option appears very long, it appears like this The Hunt (2020) - 1080p 1920x804 6ch 2249mb 90mn 5.1 The Hunt (2020) - 1080p 1920x804 8ch 6047mb 7.1 I want it to appear this way 1080p 1920x804 6ch 2249mb 90mn 5.1 1080p 1920x804 8ch 6047mb 7.1 How do I need to rename? Thanks for helping Hi @gsites, we can look at further improving this in future updates. To improve this now on your own, try renaming the folder based on our multi-version naming guidelines: https://support.emby.media/support/solutions/articles/44001159102-movie-naming
