New to emby, struggling with some things.

I've run into some hiccups. I'll post my findings below:

1. I have a MKV format with TrueHD, AC-3, DTS-HD MA, and DTS listed as the audio options. If I try to play it with anything other than TrueHD (which my system doesn't support so it starts transcoding), then I get a spinning circle forever and it never plays. This is on an Nvidia Shield Pro (2019), I haven't tried an anything else. Looking at Task Manager in Windows, I see 900+ Mbps under Network and around 20% CPU constantly from "EmbyServer". It will stay that way until I back out of trying to play the movie.

PS: When I use the down arrow on my remote after selecting the "Video" version I would like to play, it goes down to "Trailers" instead of "Play". Not sure if that's a bug or not because it doesn't do that for TV Shows. Anyway, I accidentally selected trailers once and when I backed out quickly after doing so, it started playing the trailer in the background. It keeps playing until it's done. Seems like a bug to me. I reproduced it a bunch of times.

2. This might be a bug or simply a feature that's not implemented. Audio and Subtitle names don't appear in the player, at least not on the Nvidia Shield. This makes it impossible for me to know which audio track or subtitle I need for commentary for example. I've never used a software player that didn't display audio or subtitle names, so I'm hoping this is just a bug. But if it's not, please consider it as a potential feature request. It's a pain in the butt to have to guess which audio track or subtitle does what.

PS: I have my subtitle mode set to "default" in the emby settings. From my understanding, it means it only selects subtitles that have a "default" or "forced" flag on them. But I have an MKV that has no flags on the subtitles and it keeps selecting them automatically anyway. I'm not sure if that's a bug or if I just don't understand how the settings work in emby.

3. I also haven't been able to get any of my MKV's with Dolby Vision to play with it. Is there anything special I need to do for that?

That's all I've noticed for now. Any help is appreciated!

EDIT:

Noticed a couple other things:

1. When selecting a different version of a movie, the runtime doesn't update to reflect the new version if it's different. It just keeps the run time from whatever the default version is.

2. On the Nvidia Shield, I tired playing an alternate version of a movie and it just played the default one instead. It doesn't let me play the alternate version. It does allow me to play the alternate version through the web player though.

Hi for #1, what version of the Android client are you currently using?
If you're not using the latest Beta you may want to give this a try.  Check the beta section of the forum for info on this and download location.

For #2 can you show us how your files are named?

For #3 does your TV support Dolby Vision?

#1 - Can you switch to the other Audio formats during playback ?  Is this for all files or just a few ?

#2 - You can either name them to show the 'title' or set emby to use the title rather than specify the generic type - but this leads to issues when titles are not used.

#3 - You need to be using the latest Android TV Beta to play DV.  Your files also need to be single layer DV BL+EL - no player other than a physical 4K Ultra BluRay player will play dual layer.  Use mediaInfo to confirm this.

It will say something like this :-

"HDR format : Dolby Vision, Version 1.0, dvhe.07.06, BL+EL+RPU, Blu-ray compatible / SMPTE ST 2094 App 4, Version 1, HDR10+ Profile B compatible"

1. I'm not home to check at the moment, but I just downloaded it from Google Play Store on my Shield a few days ago. Unless there was an update between then, it should be current. I'll confirm the version number when I get home though.

2. As an example, I have Black Hawk Down listed like this:

Black Hawk Down (2001)

Black Hawk Down (2001) [Extended Version]

3. Yes. I use it frequently with the streaming apps like Netflix and whatnot. I also use Plex, and although it kinda breaks and doesn't trigger it sometimes, it does generally work.

1. I'll check when I'm home to see if that works. So far, for movies, I've only tested Black Hawk Down, and it's only doing it with the 4K version of it. The regular blu ray works. For TV shows, I've tested Game of Thrones 4K and it works, other than the Dolby Vision issue.

2. Can you tell me where this setting is so I can try it out?

3. I need a beta version, got it. That is likely the issue then. I'm just using the regular version on the Google Play Store. I'll get the beta when I get home and report back. Thanks for the information on the single layer and dual layer as well.
