johnbil 3 Posted March 29, 2021 Posted March 29, 2021 Haven't been able to use Emby since last August due to a server problem, but wanted to give it another try. Downloaded latest version and tried to get it setup on my Win 7 SP1 PC. Got a message that the file could not be started (see attached details). Any suggestions? BRU0ET9H.log
ebr 16187 Posted March 29, 2021 Posted March 29, 2021 Hi. You installed the server on Windows 7? Is there a reason you have not upgraded to a more current OS?
johnbil 3 Posted March 29, 2021 Author Posted March 29, 2021 Tried to install. It's not letting me do so. It's the problem that I need help with.. Without going into details, I ran Emby for a couple of years with no problem (it was great) then everything went wrong. I couldn't connect to the server. I uninstalled Emby. I decided tp try again, but it's not letting me install it. Emby worked with this OS so it shouldn't be an issue. My PC is a little older and the resources won't handle Win 10 well. Besdides, I like the older interface better.
Luke 42081 Posted March 29, 2021 Posted March 29, 2021 Is it SP1 and fully up to date with all windows updates?
johnbil 3 Posted March 30, 2021 Author Posted March 30, 2021 It is SP1 and as I said, it worked before with Emby. I just tried to do some updates and ran into a problem. I'll try again over the next couple of days and let you know. Thanks, Luke.
Carlo 4561 Posted March 30, 2021 Posted March 30, 2021 It would be better given a choice to update that machine to Windows 10 so you can have current drivers and all the latest security fixes & features.

It's possible that over time as we update the runtime to newer versions, that even more windows updates for windows 7 are required on top of that, so that's why I suggest being fully up to date. This requirement does not exist with newer versions of windows as everything is self contained. Please let us know how you get on. Thanks.
johnbil 3 Posted March 30, 2021 Author Posted March 30, 2021 Luke, I downloaded and installed the latest updates to Win 7 SP1 as suggested. Still no go (see attached). I also downloaded a portable version of Emby. It worked, but I still run into the server connection problem that I wrote about last year, which is what I was trying to fix with a new setup. Emby on my Amazon TV, iPad and Android phone all recognize my server/PC, but can not connect or wake it. Oh well, I guess this problem can't be corrected. Thanks for trying. John SD9UXZIE.log
Guest Posted March 30, 2021 Posted March 30, 2021 (edited) Have you checked your hardware settings for your network card? If it about waking the PC.. that is going to be in those settings.. EDIT: Have you ever done any changes to the Security Configuration on that PC. I can think of quite a few settings that would impact every bit of this on windows. Edited March 30, 2021 by Guest
Luke 42081 Posted March 30, 2021 Posted March 30, 2021 Ok, I would suggest checking out our connection troubleshooter: https://support.emby.media/support/solutions/articles/44001849007-connectivity Please try the steps listed there and let us know which ones succeed and which ones do not. Thanks !
johnbil 3 Posted April 6, 2021 Author Posted April 6, 2021 Just wanted to update you on my problem. I was able to fix/reconnect with Emby. What a relief! This has been going on since August. I still can't install Emby, but I'm able to use the portable version. I listened to your advice, Hxemby001, and checked my network card. This hadn't been suggested before and I have been able to connect to the web with no problem so I hadn't considered it. I have been using the card built into my motherboard. There were no blocks or problems, but I decided to buy a new card and that did it. Many thanks to Luke and the others for your time and help.
