Ways to organize mixed media folder

Recommended Posts

I have a single folder that is a sink for all forms of media storage (music, movies, books, tv shows, etc., all in a one directory). For years I have been organizing separate folders into discrete content types using shortcuts or symlinks to the media. That way Emby can have a library with only movies, another with only tv shows, and so on.

For some time now I have been having playback errors that crash the server. Looks to be an issue with using soft links.

My concern is that I have no way of splitting the storage directory up into discrete content folders as all my programs dump to it and it is not possible to specify content type to then change the download location for each dump. Copying or duplicating the info to another folder is out of the question for large collections. Hard links are not possible as they only work for files and not directories which destroys music & tv show organization.

I doubt that I have a unique use case and wonder what others have done to solve this

Have you tried creating Libraries from the same directory for Music, Movies, and TV.. respectively to see if it uses only those files?

I am guessing this is basically one big download folder which is never touched after.. and you don't want to be a file monkey.. organizing it all.

This is not supported.

Thought it might work if there was a filetype mask written in...

My suggestion would be to still follow movie and tv naming conventions underneath the mixed content library. That will give you the best possible results.
