Problem with image freezing when direct playing

Hi,

So I have seem to have an issue with freezing when I direct play and is much better when transcoding. This happens with both live tv and mkv files stored on my server.

My server is on a 300/300mbit fiber so I don't think the issue is there.

My client in my summerhouse is on a 4G broadband connection but I generally have around 80mbit download.

It seems to me that Emby does not buffer/cache enough of the stream or does it not buffer/cache at all when live streaming?

Hi, generally it means the bitrate is too high for the connection, and then transcoding lowers the bitrate to allow it to play smoothly.

There could be ISP throttling occurring on either side of the connection, causing you to end up with much lower speeds than you are expecting.

I HATE throttling... just a note.. Took me hours to upload to OneDrive.. almost 8 hours on 50/Cable..

@Luke So a 1000Mbyte tv show is ~ 8000Mbit. It takes 43min*60sec/min = 2580 sec, so that is roughly 8000/2580 ~ 3 Mbit/s to direct play. I might be wrong in that calculation?

But obviously being on a 4G LTE connection I will have drop outs etc.

So does the Emby client buffer/cache more of the file when direct playing? Or is just streaming without any buffering/catching?

You did not really answer that question?

The apps all have a small buffer but it's essentially streaming.

Can this buffer be changed?

I'm just trying to avoid transcoding all the time and save some server load.
