Luke 42079 Posted March 28, 2021 Posted March 28, 2021 HI there, please provide more detail of the scenario. Thanks.
Ratatouille 14 Posted March 28, 2021 Author Posted March 28, 2021 Mea culpa I was not patient enough and I kept clicking and I got 5 versions perfectly reduced!! About this why the end user cannot have the opportunity to have access to the menu convert or some type of automatism built in, in case of too much buffering, producing on demand a lighter version I know Netflix do not transode but I believe use different versions automatically according to the end user bandwidth and devices capabilities.
Q-Droid 989 Posted March 28, 2021 Posted March 28, 2021 (edited) To monitor a conversion go to the server admin Dashboard. The status and progress is shown there. The server admin Conversion menu also shows jobs and status. There is no feedback in the media section when you submit the conversion job. You can give end users access to conversion but keep in mind these jobs consume system resources (CPU/GPU and storage) and can alter existing or add content to the media libraries. Conversions take time and users doing so can keep your system quite busy and make a mess of your libraries. Converting is not always the best solution to buffering. If your server can handle it then let it transcode to a bitrate below the lowest of [your upload or client download]. You can set the internet streaming bitrate limit on your server globally and the individual user level. The remote users can set their bitrate (quality) in the client apps and browser. Some degree of automation already exists but it's tricky. If you submit a job for scheduled conversion of a Library it will convert everything in that library unless something has changed in recent Emby releases. You can end up with multiple versions of already converted media and the app doesn't allow for selective deletion. Would have to cleanup manually on the server. Not to mention the time and work to convert that media. Edited March 28, 2021 by Q-Droid
