jscheeren 16 Posted March 27, 2021 Posted March 27, 2021 (edited) I understand that this is covered in many places, but there are so many contradictions, I am stuck. I use Media Center Master to create .nfo files and artwork and other metadata and it is stored with the video files in the library. So, Emby Server as far as I understand, will read this local metadata and not need to go on the internet to scrape. In particular MCM will place a copy of the people data in a location that I can prescribe. In my first installation that data is put in \AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\programdata\metadata\People. I have just created a new Emby server and it does not have that directory! So, I assume Emby now does something different regarding People data, but where will it read local People data from now? The MCM app puts a link to TMDB in the .nfo file as well as creating the local copy of the .jpg. Thank you, Jan Edited March 27, 2021 by jscheeren
Luke 42085 Posted March 27, 2021 Posted March 27, 2021 HI, this location will be back in the upcoming 4.6 release, although it may still not be in a structure that is MCM compatible.
jscheeren 16 Posted March 27, 2021 Author Posted March 27, 2021 Thanks so much Luke for letting me know so fast, I was spending a lot of time on that. btw do these changes done in the recent past to the server also explain why I can't get Movie collections to work in my new server? The plugin suggests to make sure that getting metadata from the internet is enabled - but I can't find that setting anywhere, only setting for internet searching after initial scan.

No they don't. Quote The plugin suggests to make sure that getting metadata from the internet is enabled - but I can't find that setting anywhere, only setting for internet searching after initial scan. They're in the settings for each library, and on by default, so there's nothing you need to do, unless you disabled everything because you thought you didn't need it due to using MCM.
Happy2Play 9783 Posted March 27, 2021 Posted March 27, 2021 (edited) Assuming providers are not disabled, Emby should have picked up Collections info. But if you are dependent on MCM metadata you need to install the XML Plugin and set the read priority or your xml metadata is not used at all. Sorry I see you mentioned MCM creating nfo files so you should be good. (Haven't used in awhile so many need to verify the collectionid node written) As for MCM people compatibility you will need to uncheck the use new MB3 style first letter folder as 4.6 is using just the /people folder again. (changes in Emby Server 4.6) Edited March 27, 2021 by Happy2Play missed nfo creation
jscheeren 16 Posted March 27, 2021 Author Posted March 27, 2021 I did not change the settings in the advanced section for that new movie library, but the collections tab has none-the-less has but one entry. The same setup settings work fine on my first server setup. The MCM nfo files for the movies all have pointers to TMDB which is not turned off in the library advanced Emby settings.
Luke 42085 Posted March 27, 2021 Posted March 27, 2021 Try refreshing the metadata on your movies, then run the task in the autoboxset settings screen. see if that helps.
jscheeren 16 Posted March 27, 2021 Author Posted March 27, 2021 Luke and Happy2Play Thanks very much. I installed the xml plugin and I refreshed all of the metadata, and ran the "refresh Box Sets and this all worked. I now have Collections. Great. But, I did not set the read priority for the xml plugin because I couldn't find where to do that? However, I should have done I guess, one suggestion at a time, as I now do not know which was the fix. In my original Emby server install, collections is fine but I do not have the xml plugin installed. So now, with this last install of the server I am not sure whether Emby is reading the xml files or the NFO files, or going to TMDB to get the collections. The MCM generated NFO files (all files identical between servers) do not have a collections entry, but the MCM xml files do - but again, no problem re Collections on original server. So, should I uninstall xml plugin on last installed server or "and set the read priority" And, if I set the read priority (where do I do this??) should I put xml before or after nfo? Ta.
Luke 42085 Posted March 28, 2021 Posted March 28, 2021 Quote So, should I uninstall xml plugin on last installed server Yes, it's a legacy format, it will not contain as much data as nfo files will.
