Raspberry Pi to send WOL by monitoring port 8096

I have LG Smart TV that has emby client app. As we all knew, LG TV won't send WOL to wake up my NAS which has emby server run there. My question is whether it's possible to have a low power consuming device such as Raspberry Pi to monitor the network traffic on port 8096 and send WOL to wake up the server on demand. Thanks.

Hi, how would the RPI monitor the network traffic going to the NAS?

Since the NAS IP address is known, would it possible to identify the packet targeted to the NAS?

I have LG Smart TV that has emby client app installed. As we all knew, LG TV won't send WOL to wake up emby server. Currently, I'm using a WOL app from my Android phone to wake up the server. It works but very annoying to do so every time. My question is whether it's possible to have a device to monitor the network traffic that has the destination of the server IP. When such packet is detected, the device can send WOL to wake up the server on demand. I have Asus router running with Merlin firmware, which could use tcpdump to monitor traffic. I wonder if anyone has done this. Thanks.

Hi, I've merged your two topics together as they look like the same discussion.

I'm sure it's possible, but I don't know of anything ready-made to do this for you right now.

@Gilgamesh_48 may have some tips.

I do not know how that might be accomplished.

Perhaps instead of trying to do that get yourself a MiBox S or other Android client and install a WOL client.

You can also then use this instead of the app on the LG (2 for 1) for Emby as well.

The Roku app has working WOL support too. Could get one of those relatively cheap too and just use it as an Emby client the same as Android. You have options.
