tuttimann 0 Posted March 24, 2021 Posted March 24, 2021 (edited) Hi everyone, I am considering buying a NVIDIA Shield TV or TV Pro because they seem to play Dolby Vision profile 7 without problems. Is there any big difference between them or do they both play Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos well? Any experiences with them? Edited March 24, 2021 by tuttimann
rbjtech 5284 Posted March 24, 2021 Posted March 24, 2021 Go for the Pro - the tube version is restricted by it's lack of memory and it's OS type. 1
FrostByte 5392 Posted March 24, 2021 Posted March 24, 2021 There are a few threads in here on issues with the tube vs the Pro versions. Most of the problems seem to be when playing high bitrate 4K media which will include your DV profile 7 remuxes Shield TV 2019 playback issues with 4K HDR - Page 4 - Android TV / Fire TV - Emby Community Like rbjtech mentioned the issue with the tube seems to be some type of memory leak which is maybe related to it only running in 32-bit and having less memory vs the Pro which is 64-bit.
jrwalte 17 Posted March 25, 2021 Posted March 25, 2021 I had issues with my TV 2019 and 4k MKV. It would commonly have issues when first starting the movie. A reboot of the device usually fixed it and then I could play the movie all the way through without issue. But it was annoying to know most the time I'd have to restart within the first 10 mins of starting a movie when it exhibited this issue. Since it seemed to be a memory/performance issue, I opted to get the Shield Pro and I haven't had any issues since. 1 1
