It properly cancels the previous request and issues a new one when the search term is changed. Thanks @softworkz- the above is key I think, as the search begins very quickly on other clients. using a keyboard - probably not a big issue, but if you are navigating to find letters using a remote - then you probably shouldn't even 'start' the search until a reasonable pause and it's also great idea to cancel the current search if a new letter is added - I'm not sure if the current search does this as it returns very quickly for me anyway. The WMC UI supports T9 (also known as Triple-Tap) text input as well. There's no need for a pause, because search is also restarted automatically when the letter changes, i.e. when you press 5, it adds a "J" and when you press 5 again (within a certain amount of time), it mutates the "J" to a "K". The search starts immediately for the "J", but as soon as it is changed to "K", the search is restarted.

The folks with multiple libraries of the same media type are the ones that would appreciate this the most. Pretty sure the vast majority of us would be very happy regardless.

For all the talk here, this FR has amassed 20 likes in 4+ years - not really reflective of the "vast majority". As stated before, I'm all for making it optional - but not default or the only available behavior. 2

I can't and won't speak for others but if you guys would at least make it where in setting and doing a search that ONLY settings are searched that would be fantastic.

rbjtech 5282 Posted April 25, 2025 Posted April 25, 2025 5 hours ago, CummingCowGirl said: @rbjtech you seem to miss the main point all together so once again one should be able to simply search within the particular library and not have to filter out what they don't want if they prefer not to. When one does a search in settings ONLY items in settings should come up and nothing else. Let's take it from a accessibility point of view shall we? I maintain both my roommates machine and mine. I'll give for me searching in one library and filtering is easy, but my roommates hands shake and a lot of times he can type in what he wants and hit enter, but trying to mouse to the filters can be a huge challenge. I am simply trying to expand my knowledge on why this is considered an issue - so no, I haven't missed the point at all. While your example is a totally valid, as your roommate is ok to use a keyboard - then he can simply press down arrow and left/right using the cursors to get to the filtered list - the mouse is not needed. I could argue that if you are in a particular library - and do a search - then you MAY want to look for matches outside of that library that you did not think about. So in this example, having a 'per library' search actually works against you. To do a global search, you need to go back to the main menu ? Hmm.. no thanks. While Emby is presenting you with options on what it found globally, but it may be nice to default to the library type you did the search in. ie do the search in library type of music, then the search results should default on Songs for example, not Top Results, but the others are there should you need them.
IAmHugh 63 Posted April 25, 2025 Posted April 25, 2025 I will say cause well over 95% of the time when I'm in a particular library that is the only type of media I'm interested in. I do not want a list of various movies plus the TV shows I'm looking for and vice versa. 2
IAmHugh 63 Posted July 23, 2025 Posted July 23, 2025 Amazing that this took a backseat to a feature that was completely unnecessary of a video / audio app. A Document viewer was not needed.

These postes where summed up from you reaction to a feature getting added to beta, that you did not want. And you sir / lady is the child. Stop you whining !! 1

RoGKoT 0 Posted September 1, 2025 Posted September 1, 2025 (edited) Hi Everybody... here's an example where I need to be able to search in specific library... Karaoke night... when searching for a video song... do not want to see all my music or anything else than Karaoke stuff... as searching for all pink floyd karaoke I have to let choose from. Hope this help ! Edited September 1, 2025 by RoGKoT
Teredactle 37 Posted September 1, 2025 Posted September 1, 2025 How does one vote for this? I'd like the search to happen only in the library I am in, forced global search doesn't make sense to me; if I'm in a library I expect the search to only happen for items in that library; when I'm at home, then the search should be global. TY! 1

remark3d 4 Posted September 17, 2025 Posted September 17, 2025 (edited) I would also like to join in the request... Emby Server 4.9.1.31 for RS819 - Optimized searching (proposal) Searching on weaker machines is unnecessarily time-consuming because Emby searches everything on the server in the libraries by default. However, I never need everything. It would be great if there was an option to filter what I want to search for. Or even better, when I'm in a specific section of the library, it would ONLY search there, i.e., in Movies (search only for movies), in the TV Live section (search only for TV/radio channels). brothom 177 Posted September 18, 2025 Posted September 18, 2025 I'm also interested in a feature like this. It's annoying that, when searching for a specific movie a whole bunch of similarly named episodes, books of streams pop up. UX would be beneficial here though, starting a search from the library "Movies" should in my opinion also search the library "Movies". The same would go for other libraries of course. When is user is searching by Library there should also be a "can't find what you're looking for, search everything"-type of message which in turn redirects the user back to the regular search. 1 1
Davey's 37 Posted September 27, 2025 Posted September 27, 2025 I'm also join in this conversation. It would be great if I could select one or more libraries to search in. 1 1

How? FYI, would totally love to have this in all apps as well. Sure, I can get by just fine without it. Lyfe will go on, I promise you. I wont be any better looking, richer or anything like that if this was a feature across all apps but I would be closer to world domination and that's not nothing. 1

Should of JUST been default across ALL Emby versions YEARS ago. Really annoying to see that the Android version has actually had it for YEARS.
