michaeltruncale 6 Posted December 13, 2022 Posted December 13, 2022 Is it fixed for Roku TV or Roku App?
Luke 42077 Posted December 14, 2022 Posted December 14, 2022 On 12/13/2022 at 12:24 PM, michaeltruncale said: Is it fixed for Roku TV or Roku App? It's in a similar boat. On some newer models the rotation can be applied directly in the app, and in those cases it is resolved. On older models this is not possible and we're going to have to do it server-side with transcoding.
tsvetelin 1 Posted May 24, 2024 Posted May 24, 2024 (edited) Hello, I am chiming in on this topic again a year and a half later because I have the same problem with phone videos shot in portrait orientation. The server is 4.8.7.0 on Windows 11, The player app is "Emby for Samsung 1.7.0". I am coming from a paid Plex subscription because the Plex player had the same issue (and I learned Emby is .NET-based and I .NET), and unfortunately, the Emby app has the same problem. Do you have a solution, a workaround, or any advice before my whole family gets permanent neck damage? Edited May 24, 2024 by tsvetelin

tsvetelin 1 Posted May 24, 2024 Posted May 24, 2024 (edited) Update: I installed the beta version of the TV app, which is now "Emby for Samsung 1.8.1." The problem is still there (see attached thumbnail-correctly-rendered.jpg and before-metadata-refresh.jpg - photos #3 and #2). I did a "metadata refresh" on the clip. Oddly enough, the video's aspect ratio changed to the correct one, but the video didn't rotate and got squished (see after-metadata-refresh.jpg - photo #1). Another thing that I noticed is that some vertically shot videos are rendered correctly. I took a picture of the metadata of such video (metadata-correctly-rendered-video.jpg - photo #4), and, interestingly, there is no "rotation," but the resolution and the aspect ratio are displayed as vertical. I took photos of the metadata of an incorrectly rendered video before (metadata-incorrectly-rendered-before-refresh.jpg- photo #5) and after (metadata-incorrectly-rendered-after-refresh.jpg - photo #4) metadata refresh, and it is visible that the only difference is that rotation metadata appears. Still, the resolution and aspect ratio remains the same. The video is rendered in a portrait rectangle, but the picture is still in landscape orientation, only squished into a portrait rectangle. Also, converting videos for TV doesn't help Edited May 24, 2024 by tsvetelin
bmflagg 21 Posted May 25, 2024 Posted May 25, 2024 Hi Luke... Still happening all this time also... Running 4.8.1 on Synology (just noticed 4.8.7 is out) and I forgot what, but I just did my Samsung TV's emby updates a week ago... Enjoy the long weekend! Brett 1
SamES 1056 Posted May 26, 2024 Posted May 26, 2024 If you can make some random samples for me of different orientations that don’t work then I can work through and check/resolve these. Just send a PM with a download link What model TV?

KarlHungus67 9 Posted May 27, 2024 Author Posted May 27, 2024 Hello, I'm glad my topic is still alive... It seems a very complex subject, nevertheless, will wait for a fix one day If needed, I can perform additional tests, in case, I've got last emby version on my Samsung TV,.

Thanks, the best option is if you can send me some sample files via PM that I can test to make sure this gets resolved as there may be multiple different issues.
bmflagg 21 Posted May 27, 2024 Posted May 27, 2024 Sure thing.. it'll take a bit as I have to wait to get to the TV that's doing it.. (Q900a.. QN65QN900AFXZA) and thank you.... 2
tofra 0 Posted September 1, 2024 Posted September 1, 2024 Hello, I'm joining this topic because I have the same problem. The videos were recorded upright, the thumbnails created by emby have been rotated correctly, but during playback the video is not rotated as described by others here. I have read here that the new Samsung TVs should not have this problem. But I use the emby app (v1.8.8) on a model from 2023 (GQ55Q74CATXZG) with the latest firmware update, and unfortunately the problem also exists here. The emby server runs on a Synology NAS in version 4.8.8.0. Is there any news about this?

Thanks Brett @SamES is this a video that shows what it looks like, or is this a video that will actually play with bad rotation if I play it?
bmflagg 21 Posted September 3, 2024 Posted September 3, 2024 Morning Sam 1 video is actual video, the other is from my phone which shows what happens on the TV when you play it. If I play the actual video outside of Emby on Samsung, it plays just fine. Bret 1 1
