dc07342@gmail.com 1 Posted March 19, 2021 Posted March 19, 2021 I know you've had this multiple times from other people but I'm new to this so..... When I first installed Emby back last summer I had no problems and it worked until just recently for remote access viewing. I have no problems internally and can watch from various devices the content on my drives. I have glofiber with 1gig up and 1gig down. I have a Linksys Smart wifi router with UPnP enabled and port forwarding for ports 8096 and 8920 (had no port forwarding and the Enable Automatic Port Mapping turned on but that didn't work either), I also tried Enable Automatic Port Mapping and port forwarding but no good on that either. I am using an HP Spectre x2 Detachable N5S14UA running windows 10 home 64 -bit for the computer running the Emby Server and it is hard wired to my network. I have read most of the applicable articles on setting up and still nothing.(https://support.emby.media/support/solutions/articles/44002137137-remote-setup)

What happens if you go out to canyouseeme and test ports 8096 and 8920? BTW, unless you have a domain and installed a cert don't bother with port 8920 as secured SSL can't be used without a cert. From your Emby Server if you do a tracert (traceroute) to 8.8.8.8 what do hops 2 and 3 look like? Do either of these hops start with 172, 192 or 10?
dc07342@gmail.com 1 Posted March 20, 2021 Author Posted March 20, 2021 (edited) canyouseeme gives me the standard Error: I could not see your service on 204.111.xxx.xx on port (8096) Reason: Connection timed out I used Telnet on my computer to check the open port and it says its open. Tracert show this for hops 2 and 3 2 3 ms 1 ms 2 ms 204.111.124.2 3 1 ms 1 ms 2 ms 10.24.0.221 I have uninstalled Emby and reinstalled, reloaded libraries etc. and it made no difference. Carlo 4561 Posted March 20, 2021 Posted March 20, 2021 OK you're third hop is using a private IP address space which almost always means your ISP has you behind a CGNAT (carrier grade NAT). In that environment you will not be able to get Emby running remotely as you don't have a true IP on the Internet. Check with you ISP and see if you can get a public IP or static IP.
dc07342@gmail.com 1 Posted March 20, 2021 Author Posted March 20, 2021 (edited) Talked to ISP and they changed me from private to public. The new tracert is 2 1 ms 2 ms 1 ms 204.111.39.2 3 4 ms 5 ms 4 ms 204.111.0.145 Canyouseeme now says Success: I can see your service on 204.111xx,xx on port (8096) Your ISP is not blocking port 8096 Your IP: Port to Check: Check Port I have restarted the Emby Server and it shows the new IP configuration. I went to network settings and turned on the Allow Remote connections to this Emby Server and Enable automatic p-ort mapping. I turned Wi-Fi off on my cell phone and tried to connect. Didn't work. Uninstalled and reinstalled the app on my phone, turned off the Wi-Fi again and still no luck. Telnet shows port is open. In Windows Defender, the Allow apps to communicate through Windows Defender Firewall is set to private and public. Next Step????? Edited March 20, 2021 by Happy2Play Edited WAN Address
Carlo 4561 Posted March 20, 2021 Posted March 20, 2021 Can you post a picture of the port forwarding you have setup?
dc07342@gmail.com 1 Posted March 20, 2021 Author Posted March 20, 2021 Follow up: After all of this it just took sometime for all of the pieces to work together. For whatever miracle the Emby Server is now open to remote connection. I had my son in another town try it out and he said he could connect just fine. I turned off the wi-fi on my phone after about 15 min of my last post and everything worked fine. Thanks for all of your help in this matter. 1
