hilarioferreira 0 Posted March 17, 2021 Posted March 17, 2021 Hi all: I'm trying to install emby server on linux mint 20 cinnamon Following the instructions on your site I get stuck as it asks my root password. AS I have only one password for my linux system I enter that password but I get always the message " autentication failed" Any idea of what I'm doing wrong ?? Is there another way to install it ??
Luke 42078 Posted March 17, 2021 Posted March 17, 2021 Hi, where exactly are you being asked for a password? What screen are you referring to? Thanks.
hilarioferreira 0 Posted March 17, 2021 Author Posted March 17, 2021 I am asked for my root password when I run on terminal the following command as described on emby site: dpkg -i emby-server-deb_4.5.4.0_amd64.deb
Luke 42078 Posted March 17, 2021 Posted March 17, 2021 Ok so this is needed by your system to grant access to install the software. Do you not know your own system admin password?
hilarioferreira 0 Posted March 17, 2021 Author Posted March 17, 2021 (edited) yes, I have only settled one password when I installed linux mint, so root pass must be the same. EDIT: to be more precise when I run : dpkg -i emby-server-deb_4.5.4.0_amd64.deb the system tells me that I need super user power to execut the operation (more or less this) Edited March 17, 2021 by hilarioferreira
Q-Droid 989 Posted March 17, 2021 Posted March 17, 2021 (edited) Have you tried sudo? It would need your user password. sudo dpkg -i emby-server-deb_4.5.4.0_amd64.deb Edited March 17, 2021 by Q-Droid
hilarioferreira 0 Posted March 17, 2021 Author Posted March 17, 2021 No I didn't try with sudo. Will try that tomorrow. Thanks.
hilarioferreira 0 Posted March 18, 2021 Author Posted March 18, 2021 Ok did " sudo dpkg -i emby-server-deb_4.5.4.0_amd64.deb and I get the message: "you cannot access the the folder emby-server-deb_4.5.4.0_amd64.deb file or folder not present"
Q-Droid 989 Posted March 18, 2021 Posted March 18, 2021 You download the package and run the dpkg command from the download location. The package name in the command has to match the downloaded name. That's it. ls -l to make sure the file is there.
hilarioferreira 0 Posted March 18, 2021 Author Posted March 18, 2021 So if I understood you right I have to open the folder where package is installed and run the the "sudo dpkg etc..." ?? Is that so ?? How do I found where the package is located.??
mastrmind11 722 Posted March 18, 2021 Posted March 18, 2021 its located where you downloaded it. if you cant remember, do it again and take note where you save it...
mark-in-dallas 87 Posted March 18, 2021 Posted March 18, 2021 The package is probably in your download folder, so what you probably need to do is open a terminal and type: cd Downloads, then run: sudo dpkg -i emby-server-deb_4.5.4.0_amd64.deb. If you still get the same "cannot access" message, then you can locate the install package using this command: find / emby-server-deb_4.5.4.0_amd64.deb
hilarioferreira 0 Posted March 18, 2021 Author Posted March 18, 2021 (edited) Ok so I downloaded again and it is now on my download folder. From there I ran the dpkg command but I got the same error message as before. Edit: I posted before seeing mark-in- Dallas post.will try to follow his instructions.
