flakie 11 Posted March 17, 2021 Posted March 17, 2021 I have an android box (DroiX X96 Max+). I cannot get Emby to work reliably on it. All other apps works fine with no issues, ever. Have tens of Firetick 4Ks I have configured and all work flawlessy with Emby. Now new ones cannot be rooted I will no longer be using Firesticks. I am not interested in supplying logs (I would just as soon ditch the box and try a different one, as start messing about too much). But what version of Emby do you use on the same or simlar andoid box? Anyone? Obviously not Emby for Android TV as this just reports not responding on launch. The Emby for Andoid beta does not work reliably. Mostly problems with 5.1 sound movies. Mostly silent but sometimes will work. No problems if I use it with an external player (VLC). I guess I could rip all 5.1 videos to stereo but surely they should just work (as they do sometimes). Cheers.
neik 873 Posted March 17, 2021 Posted March 17, 2021 Depending on budget I would suggest either a MiBoxS or a Shield. Both should work pretty fine with Emby (have a MiBoxS myself). 1

The Android TV beta should run on your non-standard box.
clarkss12 304 Posted March 17, 2021 Posted March 17, 2021 What does not work reliably? I am guessing that your box is an Amlogic S905X3?

Sometimes it is silent. Other times the sound plays OK. Only seems to affect 5.1 sound (but not 100% about this yet). edit: yes, correct about the Amlogic box (Amlogic S905X3 2.0Ghz CPU, 4GB RAM, 32GB ROM). Edited March 17, 2021 by flakie

But double-checked and there are some 6 channel ones that are not playing too. They do not play in this version either or the google play version too. All play fine on the web player or on my android phone and firestick. Guessing there is something odd about this android box. Going to rip these videos to stereo and just use them for now while I decide on an alternative android box. I may even keep this box and just rip all to stereo in future. Got to get this right as will be eventually installing up to 50 of them over next year or so (though not all will use emby).
clarkss12 304 Posted March 17, 2021 Posted March 17, 2021 I just tested both Android for TV versions, 1.1.80g and 3.1.80, and no issues at all with the audio. This was tested using an Amlogic S922X box running pure Android. My box feeds a Yamaha AVR, then to my Vizio TV...... Have not tested any of my X2 or X3 boxes....... But in earlier versions of the Emby for Android apps, they were NOT useable on my Pure Android boxes........ Now they are working perfectly for me. I really, don't understand what you mean by 6 channel audio??
clarkss12 304 Posted March 17, 2021 Posted March 17, 2021 (edited) Don't want to hijack this thread, but why are there two versions of Emby for Android??? Very confusing for my simple brain to comprehend.. This question has probably been asked before, but I most likely have forgotten. Edited March 17, 2021 by clarkss12

The Mobile version direct plays, where as the Android for TV version direct streams, as seen in the pics I included.... Both versions have really matured compared to the earlier versions.

I believe it was eas3 6-channel (that is whatt emby reported in the movie information). Or something like that. These were not my rips. They were ones I downloaded to see if they would play in place of my 5.1 rips. I had no idea what the audio was when I downloaded and have since deleted them. I have converted my 5.1 to stereo now and working fine. Still a mystery why 5.1 play sometimes and sometimes are silent. Probably software issue on my android box (at a guess). I really like this Android box and the only issue I have come across is the buggy audio in Emby (not that I am saying it is an Emby problem).

clarkss12 304 Posted March 17, 2021 Posted March 17, 2021 (edited) Still confusing for my simple brain.. I see "Android Tv", but Emby for Android is different than Android TV OS version........ Too much to distinguish between the " THREE" different versions....... Easy for you to distinguish, but not so much for me, that rarely uses the pure Android boxes... Emby Android TV Release Notes (BETA) is confusing for me. Edited March 17, 2021 by clarkss12
FrostByte 5392 Posted March 17, 2021 Posted March 17, 2021 Sort of related, but can you modify one of the two icons because they are exactly the same. At least until when/if the two are ever merged. Add the word TV or change the color, or something 3 2

Avoiding this confusion is a big part of why google released Android TV with a simplified UI and more curated app store. Getting an Android TV device would probably make this part of your life simpler.

I have an Nvidia Shield, Mibox and Mibox S, Tivo Stream 4k (2), Dynalink, Jetstream TV box, Google ADT-1, Mecool KM1, KM8 and KM6 Deluxe. Plus a couple of dozen "cheap Chinese" boxes. Maybe that is helps my confusion....... Trying to keep up with all the information about what each device is capable of........
