Guest Posted March 16, 2021 Posted March 16, 2021 Was wondering about suggesting.. 1. Emby Tray having 'Start' and 'Shutdown' functions.. 2. Having Emby Tray install to startup with triggered .reg file or on install This becomes easier to control it without having to go into the server, and/or install as service ( which could also be an option ) I know how to do both of those things except the start and shutdown options from the tray app, but I think it would be a little easier.
ebr 16185 Posted March 16, 2021 Posted March 16, 2021 Hi. Shutdown is already there (Exit). Start and Install aren't really possible as the tray isn't there if the server isn't running...
Guest Posted March 16, 2021 Posted March 16, 2021 (edited) Install - not on the tray options.. BUT I think I did assume the tray was a separate program... I did not know/realize ( until now ) that it does start up when emby does. Would be cool to have it separate though.. Like Apache HTTP Server... Edited March 16, 2021 by Guest
ebr 16185 Posted March 16, 2021 Posted March 16, 2021 Technically, it is a separate program but it is only currently running when the server is. I kind of think most people wouldn't like it hanging around when the server wasn't running but I guess that is always a possibility.
Guest Posted March 16, 2021 Posted March 16, 2021 (edited) I think my usage scenario, would be controlling it from your Windows computer.. without going to the start menu, finding it ( which we have options for that in several ways ) then manually starting it. You can install Emby as a service which means it is running, and shows up on its own. Apache uses its tray Icon to control it.. solely consumes very little resources and has less of on impact on boot/logon than running the full server would. Quick to access in other words, shows a status, green is running, red is stopped. It controls the server's installed service ( if you choose to ).. A lot of server software uses this method. and it can hide with the rest of your icons neat and tucked away out of sight.. available on mouseover/click on the slider.. shows that icon and its color/status.. then if you click on it launches a service monitor... For this application, I think it is probably easier just to have it written into the Context Menu of the tray icon.. since it does not need multiple instances, services, or connect functions. To better explain what I mean.. Start your system run Emby from tray and forget it.. use Emby on other devices.. ( which you can still do with a service ) but if I need to shut it down I have to open a browser and sign-in... Anyway just a thought.. Thanks... EDIT: Could have also the ability with a few function calls to indicate it is running a task, or has connected users.. by changing the icon as well. Edited March 16, 2021 by Guest
