Mixed Content: How can I get Emby to STOP misidentifying a FOLDER as a TV-SERIES

I have a mixed content library for children's entertainment. This works great for some of my folders and files. I can have series and movies and short movie collections the same place.

However, there is one thing that is driving me up the wall. THERE IS NO WAY TO TELL EMBY THAT A FOLDER IS NOT A SERIES!!!!

Originally I had my small Looney tunes collection identified as a series. Then I decided that it was much more sensible to have it as a folder with individual movies. But, that is impossible!

• I've moved the WB folder to my "animated shorts" folder, which is in a path outside any other existing library in emby,
• I've renamed the files (putting everything about season and episode inside square brackets)
• I've re-identified the files as movies and written movie-NFOs with tinyMediaManager
• and I have even made a new "animated shorts" movie library in emby just for the folders inside the "animated shorts"-folder.

And then I add the "animated shorts"-folder to my "children's entertainment" mixed content library. And Emby immediately assumes that the folder inside, where all the files are named as movies and the movies already are part of a movie library, MUST be a TV-series which it (incorrectly) identifies as the Australian series WBS and sort all the movies into "season unknown". At the same time they disappear from my "animated shorts" movie library (where they were originally)!

1. Why is this happening?
2. Why isn't it possible to tell Emby that a folder in mixed content isn't a series!?

Running server 4.4.2.0 btw.

Are the individual episodes available as movies in TMDB?  Then using a Movies library should do.

Alternatively, you can use the [tmdbid=...] extension to the name of each episode (you'd have to look the numbers up manually, I guess) to force Emby to look there for information.  That would probably work in a Mixed library.

I think I found the problem

Based on earlier posts in this forum I assumed that Emby ignored everything inside square brackets [ ], this is apparently not so (anymore?)

I had renamed my files from

S1943E24 Falling hare.mp4

(etc.) to

Falling hare [S1943E24].mp4

(etc.) but apparently this was enough for emby to identify it as an episode in a TV-series

when I renamed them to the scheme

However, I wonder - are there any way to ensure that Emby ignores parts of a filename?

Not that I am aware of.

The only time i see items that i bracketed is in folder view...  So the OP might have found something that i was not aware of.  I use them constantly in music / music videos / movie libraries.

There isn't a blanket ignore on braces because what we've seen over the years is that many put data in the brackets that needs to be parsed.

Shiver me timbers!  Guess i never noticed as most of my usage of the ole [  ] is in the folder name not the file names.  Only in mixed content folder view do i see anything in [  ].

I have a similar issue. I have a mixed content folder with both movies and TV series. For some reason, one of the folders with the movies in it is showing as a TV series. It has 3 movies in it that begin with numbers 2012, 10.5, and 40 Days and Nights. When I remove these files it reverts back to a movie folder. This was not happening a month or so ago. Is there a way to force emby to read a file as a movie vs a TV show in a mixed content folder.

No but you need to elaborate with complete folder structure and naming as it is possible but need the complete picture to know your issue as it is most likely naming scheme.

Yes - put it in its own folder with the movie name and date. 

In a movie folder you can often get away with bending the rules - but in a mixed folder you are much less likely to, because the folder structure is a main part of how the server decides between movies and series in the first place.

Folder Structure:

Folders being seen as a TV Episode folder. If I remove 2012 it is seen as a movie folder. If I make a folder that says 2012, it still looks at it as a TV folder. The number is the issue. But the number is the name of the movie.

It all commes down to YOU naming.

By just throwing this S"#t at it, how would emby know what it is, when you are using mixed folders.

Yes most likely at a minimum they will need to be NAME (YEAR), but adding providerid should work also.

I understand that everyone is saying to rename them. However, these are old movies. They have been in my system since I started using emby years ago. This folder was being seen as an movie folder up until last week. The naming structure never changed. I am just seeking to understand what has changed with emby.

In the end code changes to try and accommodate everyone mish-mash naming schemes and Mixed Contents guessing game will get it wrong do to conditions of what am I are not met.  Since Emby has to guess more specific rules will have to be applied as numbers are a representation of what as in most cases could be just a SEASON folder.

 

But personally would like Emby to Enforce only supported naming/structure shown in KB and not deviate for how the media was named when they downloaded it.

Exactly @Happy2PlayEmby should NOT cater to the Lasy bumps, that use there download folder as there media library.

I do see @itgreen9confusion, but software change, and using naming conventions, will help Emby identify, and save you, your headaches.
