DAVe3283 7 Posted March 9, 2021 Posted March 9, 2021 I am trying to add 2 versions of a movie, but it is detecting them as 2 movies in the same folder. Normally, I don't have much trouble making this work, but in this case, it is fighting me. I suspect it is because I put the year of the release in the name. I would think this should work, but it does not: M:\Alien Collection\Alien (1979)\Alien (1979) - 1979 Theatrical Version [R] 1080p.mkv M:\Alien Collection\Alien (1979)\Alien (1979) - 2003 Director's Cut [UR] 1080p.mkv The first one detects as Alien correctly, but the 2nd one detects as Alien vs. Predator for some reason. I can forcibly re-identify the 2nd one, then do a merge in the web interface, but it never shares the images in the folder, so the extras directory doesn't get associated properly, etc. For now, removing the year gets them to detect & join correctly, but then the versions show alphabetically, so the Director's Cut shows first. Ideally, with the year it would show the theatrical first, which is what I want. This sure seems like a bug, though. It seems like the 2nd one shouldn't ever detect as AvP. Having the ability to name versions after a year is valuable, especially on movies like Star Wars, which got a number of changes over the years. Being able to list the versions by year and name, as I am attempting here, would be very convenient.
Luke 42080 Posted March 9, 2021 Posted March 9, 2021 Hi, yes this is a tricky case with the year in the title, try removing that and I think that will resolve it.

I added Theatrical first, then added Director's cut. But yes adding them both at once they would be the other way as they would be imported alphabetically. And yes with that additional year in naming does mess up automate identify, @LukeWhy is the filename messing Identify up as folder name and year should be used, correct? Alien (1979)\Alien (1979) - 2003 Director's Cut [UR] 1080p.mkv This should not return as AVP: Alien vs. Predator (2004)
moviepalace4K 29 Posted March 10, 2021 Posted March 10, 2021 The director's Cut version is also labeled incorrectly I see (year 2003 should be 1979).

Technically there is a Alien: The Director's Cut (2003), but online providers do not differentiate media version/cuts.

DAVe3283 7 Posted March 10, 2021 Author Posted March 10, 2021 Yep, it isn't really a director's cut, but is called that for marketing reasons. https://avp.fandom.com/wiki/Alien_Director's_Cut It was released theatrically in 2003, which is why I labeled it 2003. Also the Blu-ray lists it as 2003. But either way, I should be able to call the version "Alien (1979) - 2025 Super-deluxe Ultra Edition" and have it show up, regardless of how dumb the name is. For now I used @Happy2Play's trick and got the display order I want by manipulating the import order. But it would be nice if this naming scheme could be supported.
