What tags are used to populate the Album Artists view for music?

@Deathsquirrel

The key metadata tags that need to be changed are MBz_AristID and the Artists Tag

If you remove the Buster Rhymes MBz_ArtistID and Buster Rhymes Artists tag this should be enough

But i would remove  Buster Rhymes from all the other references in other tags -

he will then disappear from Emby

If you do that it will also work in 4.6 beta so wont need to be changed again

The double tags is fine from a id3 perspective but its better to have them as singles separated by / or ; etc as one single tag

I always use Mp3Tag to check tags on an album even if i use Picard as things like this come up occasionally as MBz is not perfect although generally good.

The only thing that MP3Tag does not show are private id3 tags that dont get used by emby either - so is the best tool for a check of what is in your mp3/music files

So if your other affected albums are similar to this one then you can easily modify them to correct the "errors" you are seeing

As 4.6 is coming in the near future and you will have to refresh all your music anyway then how much time you invest now vs then is up to you - as its all tag driven and is very picky about how you have your tags - then i suspect it will flush out other inconsistencies like this.

If I do that, there is no purpose to having both an Artists and Album Artists view in Emby or separate Artist and AlbumArtist tags in the media.  This makes absolutely zero sense as a solution.

I would try to make a copy of the files and remove ALL metadata from all version of ID3 present or VORBIS...

Then come back and only type in your data without anything from online resources ( .. is what I meant before ) ....removing all of the highlighted areas.. to figure it out would be changing one at a time until you see it change in order to learn what it is using or referencing (causing the problem).

After copying/changing the metadata rename the copy as Linkin Park - We Made It, and drop it in then see what it does. I can see everyone of the areas I highlighted as being points of reference to Busta Rhymes, that could be used by the system to obtain as much information as possible to display the song or album correctly.

.. and I am assuming we are actually trying to remove Busta from the album artist listing, triggering it to be an incorrectly listed or customized listing, modifying the metatdata to display it that way.

Thanks, I appreciate the suggestion but that's absolutely not going to happen.

In the original post I asked a simple question.  What tags are supposed to control who shows up in the Album Artists view in Emby.  I don't believe that's been answered but I'm content to wait for 4.6 to see if this clears up.  If it doesn't, I'll resurrect this thread.

If someone will answer that simple question, I'll edit the tags accordingly.  I'm not spending a few hours nailing down a bug in the absence of that data.

Sorry dont follow your logic

You can still have BR as an Artist if you want besides LP being the AA

Having two tags for the same thing confuses Emby - so have one artist tag/MBz tag but have both "Artists" separated by a / or ; e.g. 1207648431_Annotation2021-03-09224131.thumb.jpg.91f271e2033a53f9a8cee3292b75030c.jpg
