I still cannot connect  to my server externally I have port forwarded 8096-8920

canyouseeme.org can see my service on port 8096

I get a select server screen on my phone and my server is there but I cannot connect

on my dashboard it says my phone is connected

I decided to try my plex server which I have not used in years and I and my user can connect no problem

Sounds like you are almost there.  When you select the server on your phone app (via 3/4G - with wifi off) what does it say ?

Also "I still cannot connect  to my server externally I have port forwarded 8096-8920 " - You have port forwarded 8096 AND 8920 yes, not 8096 to 8920 ?

Unless you are setting up SSL, there is no reason to port forward 8920.

this is excerpt from connectivity guide on Emby

To do this, you'll need to open the web interface for your router, and forward TCP Port 8096 on your router to port 8096 on the Emby Server machine. Do the same for port 8920 as well.

as for phone it says

Connection Failure

We're unable to connect to the selected server right now.

Please insure it is running and try again

Can you post the latest embyserver.txt log file after an emby restart ?

This will give us the information we need to investigate further as it sounds like you have connected, but for some reason.

ps - please ensure you did a port forward, not a port trigger.

From your log, I don't see any remote connections - they are all on the same LAN. (192.168.0.x)

I do see some DLNA issues, which are not on the same LAN (192.168.1.x) - causing issue - but lets ignore those for the moment.

Do you see your remote WAN address on the Dashboard ?

Are you connecting to this directly on your phone app/browser ?

ie

http:\\10.20.30.40:8096

where '10.20.30.40' is your WAN address ?

put the remote wan address **.**.***.**:8096 into web browser I get

Hmmmm...cant reach this page

the connection was reset.

'Something' is terminating your connection.

You may need to wait for @cayars to offer a remote session to figure this one out.

can't understand how plex is working and Emby is not

From your Emby Server try a tracert route (tracert on windows) to 8.8.8.8

For hops 2 or 3 do you see any IPs starting with 172 or 10?

Posted

no ips starting with 172 or 10 on hops 2 or 3

If you like I can remote in and give you hand looking at this and hopefully getting you fixed up.

If you'd like help just download and install TeamViewer from www.teamviewer.com.
Send me a PM with the ID and one-time password you get on launch.

Let's continue here what we were doing in chat while I was remoted.

So you have an ISP provided modem.  Then you have a netgear and you also have a TP-LINK which is how your Emby Server is attached to the network correct?

The TP-Link is attached to the ISP modem but the TP-Link doesn't support port forwarding so there is NO WAY to pass INBOUND packets.

Is there any way to either move the ISP router to the location of your Emby Server or move the Emby Server to the location where any Ethernet based router is located?
Ideally we want the Emby Server connected directly via Ethernet for a good network connection.  You could then maybe use the TP-Link for another part of the network.

Is something like this doable?

I only had ISP router moved near the tv so i could have wired connection on my devices tv/firestick.

I want to play 4K content without buffering and to that extent it works well

I just can't connect from outside my home network yet i can connect on plex from outside home network

TV connection is the least of the issue.  Can you put it back the way it was so the Emby Server is plugged into the router?

Posted

Don't think i will be able to do that

Posted

yes still cannot connect from outside my home network

Unfortunately until Emby is moved from behind the TP-Link there isn't much we can do as we can't port forward through that device.

Hi I know its been awhile since ive been here

I am having the same problem again after connecting directly to router

I am no longer behind the TP-Link

I have port forwarded the netgear router and the virgin hub 3 modem to 8096

still no joy

Give us a quick update of what you had before and what you have now.

A. What I'm specifically looking for is what router is connected to the Internet.
B. What router is the device/machine Emby Server is connected to.
C. Is there another router between A & B or is B connected directly to A?
