I guess this is really what I was after. I did read that part, but it didn't sink in until after I'd posted all those screen shots.

I tested with the aon skin, but not sure what/how you try to add nodes. Thanks for the images, but it's still not clear from there. Do you try adding a homescreen node, a widget, a submenu item?

I run some tests, and looks ok to me.

It's not a big deal when the selection shows an empty list. Use it anyway and check if it works. Sometimes Kodi is kinda weird when it comes to embedding custom nodes pointing to a plugin path.

Also you could try a node reset in emby for kodi next gen plugin menu (fixes outdated nodes)

Thanks for looking into this - I really appreciate it!

Adding a homescreen node.
I'll try to describe the steps in text as best I can (hard to describe a GUI in text)...

  • Skin Settings -> Main Menu -> Set up Aeon Nox main menu
    • I'm replacing one of the menu items I wouldn't otherwise use, or you can add a new menu entry.
  • For the settings:
    • Choose item for menu -> Video Library -> Library Nodes
    • 2nd entry from the bottom: EMBY: Next Episodes (Mixed content) -> <select button>
    • I'm setting a label (for testing it doesn't matter), then use the back arrow (bottom left of quadrant) on the Kore remote, to exit out of the menus back to the main menu.
  • When I select "Next Up" (my chosen label) from the main menu, it says "EMBY FOR KODI NEXT GEN" at the very top left corner of the screen with exactly one item listed - the "up folder level" icon.
    • I select "Up level", there are 2 options there, neither lists any TV or movies.

If, however, I go to the default "Videos" entry in the main menu, I'm presented with a long list of options. Near the bottom is an "EMBY: Next Episodes (Mixed content)" entry. When I select that, I'm presented with the same list of individual episodes from a variety of shows that I see in the "Next Up" section of my Emby instance (when I go directly to the web browser on my PC).

I know that the "Next Episodes" does sync with Emby's "Next Up" dynamic list somehow, but, it doesn't find it when I attempt to link to it directly from a main menu entry.

I also created a main menu node to In Progress Shows, and it takes me to a listing of all the shows I'm currently watching, but it doesn't list the next episode to be watched, so I have to drop in, then sort through to find the next unwatched episode. (First world problems, I know...)

I just switched from an older nightly build of LibrELEC (12.0 nightly - either 20240426-4513878 or 20240505-5087609) and the Next Up node was working just fine in the Aeon Nox skin. I'm 99% sure I was using the Silvio version there. Unfortunately, that managed to fail an update from one of those versions to another (don't recall which I was on or which it was updating to), and ended up having to reinstall LibrELEC12.0.1 from scratch.

Seems to be a skin helper issue -> workaround

Choose item for menu -> Add-Ons -> Video-Addons -> Emby for Kodi next gen (Video) -> Synced Nodes -> Continue Watching *Mixed content).

If this still doesn't work, add the following to the xml node -> "emby_nextepisodes.xml"

"<group></group>"

Should look like that:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes" ?>
<node order="2" type="folder">
    <label>EMBY: Next Episodes (Mixed content)</label>
    <icon>DefaultInProgressShows.png</icon>
    <path>plugin://plugin.service.emby-next-gen/?mode=nextepisodes&amp;mediatype=episode&amp;libraryname=unknown</path>
    <group></group>
</node>

This (empty) group parameter is for some skin-helpers required, otherwise they could crash or not check, that's folder type node even it's declared.

I'll also check if replacing "plugin://plugin.service.emby-next-gen" with "plugin://plugin.video.emby-next-gen" helps.

Even it does the exact same thing, Kodi is poor in content detection and it matters how things are opened.

I get to Add-Ons -> Video Addons

Then all I see is another "Video Addons". Selecting that is the final step. I don't ever get an "Emby for Kodi next gen" option to select from.

I'll try editing XML, but that'll have to wait until I'm more awake. I know me - at this time of night, I'll screw up far more than I'll manage to fix...

Thanks again!

Sounds, the helpers are not installed? Did you install "Emby for Kodi Next Gen (Video)" Plugin?

Ummm... apparently not. :(

I did so, followed the quoted directions in your previous post and now it's working great!

Thank you again for your help & your quick responses - I guess your username is appropriate! :D

Welcome, anyway I'll try to find the core issue. Both should work.

I've noticed that there are several shows that were in the Emby "Next Up" list that I'm no longer interested in watching. I clicked the 3-dot menu in Emby and selected "Remove from Continue Watching" image.png.8198e73d01f8d10dfa74862d6d0a30a2.png

When I do that, it disappears from the "Next Up" list in Emby. However in Emby Next Gen, they're still there on Kodi. There doesn't appear to be a context menu option available within Kodi to remove it from "Next Up", and a full resync of ENG doesn't seem to remove them, either.

I can post the log file (LMK if the full zip, or just one of the 9 files inside are needed), if that would help.

I'm on version 11.1.10 for ENG. For ENG (Audio) and ENG (Video), it's v 10.1.2.

What are these 2 additional bits for, and can I turn off the animated icon? I found a setting for that and turned it off, but it's still animating... :(

Do you use dynamic nodes if you want this feature? Synced nodes uses Kodi's internal resources to "simulate" the same approach as Emby does.

I'm using this, so I guess not.

You said you had a fix for the original issue that was ready for the next release, but I'm not sure if that's come out yet. If that will fix this when I change it to a dynamic node, I'll wait patiently.

Also, any idea when the next release will be out?

Is there a problem with firestick? You can use the current versions...

No sir it is working fine I was just curious to know since I do the updates for fam and friends and sometimes a database rebuild is required which requires me on site so I am aware. Usually meaning the plugin needs to be reconnected to server database and tv and movies rebuilt which is very fast thank you for having made it so much faster in the current version

This is a free product created by you that I get to use for my pleasure and I greatly appreciate it! I'm not demanding anything, and I certainly understand that the last couple of weeks have been very busy for most people around the world.

I'm just hoping for an update of when you might expect the update to come out now. I'm on 11.1.10, and I've checked the "versions" listing in the add-on, and it shows that this is still the latest version.

I'll be thrilled to have it whenever it's available, I'd just like to know roughly when I should start checking again.

Thanks for all your hard work on this and have a very successful & prosperous 2025!

Thanks.

You should switch to beta channel. I released the new version already last year or wait till I push it into stable repo.

Stable gets the updates usually a couple weeks after beta repo and only if no user reported serious issues.

I see. I didn't realize that the initial push went beta first. Makes complete sense, just hadn't hit me.

Thanks again for your work on this!

Hi,

hope it is ok to ask this question here.since I have been following this thread.

On my firestick I have used Emby beta when it changed from 1 addon to 4 addons. I have updated kodi along the way now using kodi 21.1. So still have 4 addins I know when it changed to 4 you sis that the others were helpers.
When I installed on a new firestick kodi 22.1 and then Emby beta .when I went to configure I found that there were only 2 Emby addons.
My question is there any benefit of using the 2 addons version? Any difference?would I benefit by uninstalling the Emby beta and then reinstalling it having to addons?

Thank you for your help

There is no 2 addons version. You can simply install the other 2 (missing) plugins if you wish from the repo (manually).

Only the "service" plugin is mandatory, the 3 other addons (audio, video and music) are helpers and optional. They are used for dynamic (not synced content) only and have no benefit if you use synced content.

Some content is only accessible via dynamic nodes, e.g. pictures and therefore you need the helpers.

Btw, I think lot's of people still believe, the "video" plugin is the core but no. This changed in 10.X version, the "service" is the core.

Configurations should be done there. For historical reasons, I added a link in the helper plugin's configuration menu but it's only a redirect to the "service" plugin's configuration menu.

Very interesting I appreciate both post making it very clear what your thought process was in the design. For it no more video settings service settings wher exchanges should be made.

meaning that since I use sync I can delete the other 3 that are version 10.1.0 only keeping 10.0.47 addon?

curious though since I am on the beta source my Emby has not updated to the latest beta that I saw on the new firestick.

You can keep them or uninstall them. No difference for synced content. Also 10.0.47 is the old stable version and not up to date.

Look in the support thread here:

The current versions are always listed on page 1 of this thread.

If your Kodi is not automatically updated, reinstall the repository plugins from here:

http://kodi.emby.tv/

...and enable the autoupdate function in Kodi for both repos.

TeamB cleaned the mess in the repo structure and therefore the repo plugins must be updated. Keep in mind, and update from 10.X to 11.X will trigger a resync.

Wow such great info

Did not realize the mess was cleaned up in the rep structure either

Would it be better cleaning out the old removing Emby form stick and even the repository then reinstalling the repository and add Emby beta to the stick?
