emby does not release memory ?

Hi all

I run emby on ubuntu VM (proxmox).

See an odd memory allocation on an idle emby instance allocating ~2GB memory and never releasing it.

This is high memory (nothing actually is running at all):

This is after fresh emby restart:

No problems seeing because of this, but feels odd.

Anybody has an explanation ?

Thx

Hi, let's look at an example:

Thanks.

That was an example :)

Are you seeing/expect the memory be released at some point ?  Or this is a normal operation?

what is your server doing (or just did) when you see that?  I rarely see over 200MB used during streaming or transcoding.

I think he wants to see your log, so he can determine exactly how much nothing Emby is doing on your system..

I will provide logs later when collect better data points thx

seems weird.  try limiting your VM to like 500MB of memory, see what happens

Interesting idea, will try 1GB

Streaming 4 1080 streams with no problem.

Maybe it's unhappy with 3 GB ?! :)

That doesn't seem like too much and it could be that the VM is reporting memory usage as resident + cache. But even with that said my emby server process sits at around 1.5GB resident when idle and a few days of uptime. Mem usage goes up and down with use but tends to settle there.

Update - on allocated 1GB RAM usage seems to be more reasonable around 200-260 MiB.

It's very interesting why on 3GB it behaves differently, maybe LCX/Proxmox issue not emby's.

Still keeping an eye on it .....
