After testing with multiple clients/IPs on the same account. This setting defaults to AUTO every new login. How do I keep it at 4K-120Mbps forever permanently?

Hi.  You cannot do that because that setting is very dependent on the available connection for each of those devices.

I want to do this as the shared media are VERY small 200-500MB. RP4 doesn't bode well with transcoding. Basically no point in emby's client choosing to transcode if it "senses" my connection is weak.

Hi.  The size of the file isn't directly relevant.  Rather it is the bitrate.  And, if these are low-bitrate, then they shouldn't trigger transcoding (due to bitrate).

Fron my experience, emby doesnt detect "auto" very well.

In weak signal areas, transcoding gets triggered. I manually have to change it to 4K in settings for it to play.

The post you linked is 2 years ago, why not implement this feature?

Hi.  If the signal is weak, then the bitrate must be reduced in order for playback to continue properly.  What else would you expect to happen?

Expect? What I expect is emby doing what I want it to. That's the whole point of having stuff self hosted.

Back to the topic, the signal is weak but its good enough to play direct play when I manually set it to 4K 120. So emby's threshold for "weak signal" is bad. I can play it direct play no problems.

Regarding settings storage, have your questions been answered related to that?

Yes if you guys do not plan to implement this...
