Emby not displaying subtitles on PC

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Hi everyone!

I am new to emby, and I have been trying it out for a few days. I had no problems whatsoever until yesterday, when it decided to stop showing subtitles.
It happens on every movie/tv show that I load, but I noticed some weird stuff:
- first of all, it only happens on PC; every smartphone or tablet I tried works just fine, but on every PC it just doesn't work;

- I also noticed that it works with some specific kind of subtitle (English PGSSUB to be precise)

- On one particular TV Show downscaling to 480p made the subs appear again

I already tried uninstalling and re-installing the server app and deleting the library and loading it again but with no luck. I am not really practical with these things and I also already checked many of the posts that are already on the forum but I couldn't find one for my specific problem.

UPDATE 1) Subs are displaying fine with the emby theater app, and I forgot to mention that I am using the browser with emby server directly.

I believe I should attach the embyserver.txt file (?)

I First tried loading a tv show just to make sure.

I also noticed that I forgot to include that I am using microsoft edge as a browser.

Hi @Simon0106 did you select the subtitles in the video player by clicking the CC icon?

Yes @Luke I tried every single subtitle available in the options, as I said only the english PGSSUB subs work for some reason. They work fine on every device and on the emby theatre app so I think it's a problem with the web browser(?)

Can you please provide a log example? Based on the one you sent me it doesn't look like you ever clicked on the subtitles. Thanks.

Hi I'm sorry for the late answer, got some connection problems.
Anyway, this is the log file I got. I made sure to select multiple subtitles. I tried like 9 different ones.

It's actually a onedrive folder. I am using it with RaiDrive so that I can access it as a real hard drive.

Just to mention, in case you were wondering, the subs don't work even if I use the physical hdd on my computer.

Can you provide a sample video and subs for testing? Thanks.

Were you able to fix this issue? I am having the same issue right now. Sometimes the subtitle will not show up in emby via browser.. What I do is test the same video in my phone and subtitles are working fine.

I am not using a usb drive but a regular 3.5" Sata HDD.

Hi,

I added the lated embyserver.txt file

Emby on openmediavault installed via docker.

I tested videos where the subtitle does not show up.  It works on my phone Huawei Mate 20 Pro and on PC via Emby Theater (not paid version) and subtitles show up. It's not working for any browser I tried firefox, chrome, edge

I don't think its the video file because it happens on multiple vidoes that I have

Did you just gave up on it? Or were you able to find a solution?

Hi there @punksinatra, are you still having an issue with this? Please try again with the newly released Emby Server 4.6 release and let us know how that compares. Thanks !
