Emby Theater for Windows and PGS Subtitle

Hi, I did read a post saying that this player can direct play PGS.

When I try to play some animes in 1080P in a mkv file with PGS subtitles, then it will start transcoding if a subtitle is selected. With subtitle off then direc play is working.

Did I unserstand something wrong? Isn't Emby Theater supposed to direct play PGS?

there are 2 versions of emby theater for windows with very different playback capabilities

OK, now I'm a little embarrassed. I always thought it was the same software and since I hate online installers I thought I'd use the one from the store.
In fact, the desktop version no longer causes problems. Thanks for pointing that out.

May I ask if some one could tell the purpose of two different programs? Is the store app mainly for XBOX and maybe limited hardware capavility for more formats?

And is the desktop app also available as offline installer?

server and theater on desktop windows are both designed as portable programs, that just ran from what ever folder they are extracted in, if not using the installer
