Sort movies

Hello. I have movies 1. Movie 2. Movie and 3. Movie and onward to 10. (working on the top 100 movies from a CBS list) In metadata I have the sort fields populated. Emby is set to sort alphabetically, yet these movies do not sort properly. Actually, I cannot tell what they are sorted by, its odd. I get 6 4 1 2 10 and so on.

Any help is welcome.

thanks

I just noticed they sort properly in the main movie library but not in Collections.

There should be an open FR or two around, regarding the subject...

Collections have a Display order (Release date or Sort Name).  By default it is Release Date.  You have to edit metadata on the Collection.

Can I ask why release date by default is ascending and not descending? Also why isn't there an option between the two? Seems like a weird decision.

Of course there is - just click it again.

Well, I thought it was obvious. Maybe not.

Sorry, should have been more specific. I don't mean sorting from within collections.

I want my collections to be ordered release date descending for all my current and future collections.

When you choose the display order for collections, you only get these two choices. When you choose release date, it defaults to ascending.

I know you can change this from within the collection itself, but if I have over 50 collections, I have to change the sorting in every single one.

If we could simply add both ascending and descending options to both 'Sort name' and 'Release date' options for the collections, than we can make defaults.

Hope this makes sense.

The upcoming 4.8 server release will have sorting controls right on the collection screen and there will be a lot more sort options.

Awesome @Luke! Looking forward to that. Do you have a rough ETA on release date? Will it be seen in a beta sooner? Cheers mate.

No eta but hopefully soon. It’s in the beta channel now.

Sorry Luke, just to clarify. When you say "sorting controls right on the collection screen" your not talking about the ones on the collection screen itself are you? Your talking about the screen when you make collections?

Also, when you say it's in beta channel. Do you mean this https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby.Releases/releases or something different?

Cheers.

Yes on the collection screen itself. Beta instructions can be found on the download page of our website:

Hi Luke, I think theres still some misunderstanding. I have the latest beta .51 and there is still only those two options in the collection creation page. This one below.

This dropdown is the one that should have more options like ascending/descending.

Your talking about the collection screen the user sees. I know you can sort these on the beta but you have to do it for every single collection separately.

Adding it to the above dropdown section instead would make it that order by default.
