brooklynwriter 0 Posted February 19, 2021 Posted February 19, 2021 Hi. After using EMBY happily for years, I can't log in to my server. I get a message that says "sign in error, invalid user name or password." I'm using Windows 10, and the same username and password that I successfully used to log into this forum. Also, when I try to reach the server from another device, I get a message that says "connection failure, we are unable to contact the selected server right now." This has been going on for several days. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Peter
ebr 16186 Posted February 19, 2021 Posted February 19, 2021 Hi. Where is your server installed? Can you access the dashboard from that machine?
brooklynwriter 0 Posted February 19, 2021 Author Posted February 19, 2021 Hello EBR and thanks for your quick response. The server is located on the C drive of an HP workstation running windows 10, I normally access it through a shortcut that targets: C:\Users\Peter\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\system\EmbyServer.exe I tried to access the dashboard at:http://localhost:8096/web/dashboard.html but got an error message saying the browser (Firefox) could not reach that address. I really don't know much about where EMBY's system file are kept, so if there is a better way to reach the server, I will be happy to try it. Thanks again, Peter
Happy2Play 9783 Posted February 19, 2021 Posted February 19, 2021 Does taskmanager show EmbyServer process? 10 minutes ago, brooklynwriter said: really don't know much about where EMBY's system file are kept, so if there is a better way to reach the server, I will be happy to try it. Everything is in the hidden user appdata folder. C:\Users\Peter\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server Type in explorer or run %appdata%\Emby-Server But there should be shortcut on Windows/Start menu Next step would be posting a server log.
ebr 16186 Posted February 19, 2021 Posted February 19, 2021 It sounds like maybe the server isn't running. Do you see the icon on the task bar?
peterksiegel 0 Posted February 19, 2021 Posted February 19, 2021 Thanks again EBR. Taskmanager does show embyserver process and there is an icon in the taskbar. When I click the icon (or when I click the start menu icon) I am brought to a sign in screen which is where I am told "sign in error, invalid user name or password." I'm attaching a log from a short while ago. I hope its the right one. Thanks again. Peter embyserver.txt

You know their are two accounts for every user? Sure they can have the same username and password but shouldn't. Logging on to localhost is different then logging into app.emby.media. It is really hard to say the issue on a invalid user/password issue. A guess is exactly that when we consider the conditions I just mentioned. So are you sure you are using your Local Emby user account username and password?
brooklynwriter 0 Posted February 20, 2021 Author Posted February 20, 2021 Thanks Happy2Play. I did not know that. I’ll figure that out and let you know the results. Peter
Solution Happy2Play 9783 Posted February 20, 2021 Solution Posted February 20, 2021 Just to add to this, here is a example as my local user is Media but my Connect user is Happy2Play. So depending on where I am logging in at will determine which one is used.
brooklynwriter 0 Posted February 20, 2021 Author Posted February 20, 2021 Holy Cow! It worked. I'm so happy! I figured our my other account name and was able to get into the server and set a new password. From there it was only a few steps to get the server discovered by my app, which is EMBY for Roku. Thanks!!!!! You guys are the best! Peter
