Video Processing on a Android TV

Hi

I am looking at getting an Sony Android TV.

What I am trying to find out is, does Emby pass the video/audio processing over to the TV's video processing or does it process it within the Android environment.

The TV would have a much better upscaling processor then android so would prefer to use that to upscale from 720/1080 -> 4K, or for it to play 4K natively.

Also from a PC point of view, if I have 1080 content, I am thinking I should leave the PC desktop at 1080 and then the TV would upscale to 4K? If I changed the TV desktop to 4K, then the PC would be doing the upscaling. Does it work that way? (I am still in the 1080 club so I haven't played with 4K yet)

I have a new sony A85 and have stopped using my shield

So emby is on the TV - and as far as i can tell any upscaling is done by the TV - does a good job - but 4k media is better obviously

the pc as the client would do the upscaling/downscaling via the client e.g. app Emby Theatre

i can play 4k videos on a non 4k monitor via chrome with no problem

Thanks for the reply.

I use Emby Theatre through a receiver when watching my content. Daughter uses the shield when she watches TV as it is less complicated and her cartoons and  they don't generally come in 7.1 sound unless it is a movie.

Sony seems to be the only option for me now days as the others seem to have dropped DTS support and I like sound with my pictures. (full channels not transcoded downwards).

I intend to pay direct from the TV to use it's processor for upscalling and then pass out out via e-arc to the receiver or get a atmos sound bar system.

Going to see what the A90J is like once it is released.

I am also interested in understanding if Emby is available as a native app on the A90J, and wether it causes transcoding or can direct stream by using the Sony onboard processor for hardware acceleration. I feel this is the OLED for the movie enthusiast in me.

Thank you for letting me know. How do you like the A90J? It looks like it's gonna be the business
