UltraDave9000 0 Posted February 15, 2021 Posted February 15, 2021 (edited) Evening, Firstly I should say I've searched all over to try and solve this, to no avail. I am setting up Emby Server on a Raspberry Pi for a small home network; I am new both to the Pi (and indeed Linux) and Emby. All has been straightforward enough with the exception of the handling of movie extras. I just can't get them to register as extras; they come up as individual movies with random attempts to match metadata to the titles I am using a Pi 3b+ with Version 4.6.0.22 beta. I am testing the result on a windows laptop via Firefox. The library type is Movies. The source files are on a old ReadyNAS Ultra 4+; Pi and NAS are connected via rj45 and a switch. I have followed the naming convention and every variation I can think off. I have removed libraries and re-added them countless times. I've rebooted the pi; I've even uninstalled and re-installed Emby Server. Structures I have tried include the most obvious : /Cloverfield (2008) /Cloverfield (2008)/Cloverfield (2008).mkv /Cloverfield (2008)folder.jpg [for the thumbnail image, a hangover from previous DLNA use] /Cloverfield (2008)/extras /Cloverfield (2008)/extras/deleted scenes.mkv Originally I thought multiple extras was no good; I have removed all but one in a test library - no bananas. I have tried /specials instead of /extras. I have tried /Extras and /extras. I have tried: /Cloverfield (2008) /Cloverfield (2008)/Cloverfield (2008).mkv /Cloverfield (2008)/Cloverfield (2008) - deleted scenes.mkv [just comes up as a movie variant as you would expect] I've also done /Cloverfield (2008)/extras/Cloverfield (2008) -extras01.mkv Still not a sausage of an extra on the movie page, just some random additional movie based on a tenuous title match. I've tried other random variations too. Each time I've removed the library ad re-added it, to improve the chances (but just re-scanning has been tried and didn't help). I've tried refreshing metadata. I was using a fairly large library but to save time with all the frustrating testing I've removed everything and just tried to get a single movie working. I can't see any logical reason why one of the above variants shouldn't work and can't help thinking there must be some sort of bug or anomaly with my particular setup that is causing this. Can anyone help? Edited February 15, 2021 by UltraDave9000
roaku 842 Posted February 15, 2021 Posted February 15, 2021 (edited) You should be able to just put your extras files inside that 'extras' directory. Don't include the movie name/year for the filenames. Just a descriptive name for that particular extra. Same process for the other supported directory names, if you want to use any of them. Thanks - yes, I've tried that - screenshots below show exactly that structure, still listed as a separate random movie.
Luke 42077 Posted February 17, 2021 Posted February 17, 2021 Hi, how many emby libraries have you created, and what folder paths did you add to each one?
speechles 2055 Posted February 17, 2021 Posted February 17, 2021 (edited) Works just fine for me. No problem here. Extras can be named anything... Edited February 17, 2021 by speechles

Initially I had 2 movie and 2 tv libraries, but I also tried just a single movie library for testing purposes. Not sure I understand the question re paths? The source folders are on my NAS, e.g. \\192.168.1.1\media\tv, \\192.168.1.1\media\videos, etc. Edited February 17, 2021 by UltraDave9000 typo

speechles 2055 Posted February 17, 2021 Posted February 17, 2021 (edited) is your path structure like this you added to Emby? ie... You just add the path to "Movies" and inside it are just movie folders with movies inside those folders. Like below.. Movies/ Movies/Star Wars VII The Force Awakens (2015) Movies/Star Wars VII The Force Awakens (2015)/Star.Wars.VII.The.Force.Awakens.(2015).mkv Movies/Star Wars VII The Force Awakens (2015)/Extras Movies/Star Wars VII The Force Awakens (2015)/Extras/Finn and the Villager.mkv I have a single Movie library and have added numerous paths like above in which are folders each containing movies. The movie library only has subfolders that contain movies. Inside that movie subfolder is a folder called extras and inside it the extras named anything. This works for me. Is yours set up similar? speechles 2055 Posted February 17, 2021 Posted February 17, 2021 Make sure to delete any NFO created so Emby can remake them inside the problem folders. Then since you have the library the same now. After delete those NFO just scan library and you should be set.

Are they created elsewhere?

To be clear as well, there aren't problem folders as such; every movie with extras has the same issue despite me following the correct structure.
speechles 2055 Posted February 17, 2021 Posted February 17, 2021 Yeah. You might have to move the folders out of the library. Scan library. Then move those folders back in. Scan library. That will remove the internal NFO if you do not save metadata with media.

It was the initial ingestion you lacked them. Or you had them before the movies. Whatever it was moving those folders with extras out of library paths Emby can see. Scan library. Then move them back to where they go. Scan library. That should fix it. The problem is as you construct in place Emby might not get it what you have done. Doing the above assures Emby understands everything correctly. Edited February 17, 2021 by speechles

Seems like a bit of a weakness in the Emby software, to have to add extras only after adding the movie file. Pretty inconvenient when you already have an established library of movies!

Ah, is that what happened here, that you don't actually have the movies? Yes that would explain it.

Sorry, I don't understand... I have both the movies and the extras. Speechles was suggesting I need to remove the extras, leaving only the movies, scan the library, then add the extras back in.
Luke 42077 Posted February 17, 2021 Posted February 17, 2021 OK sorry I misread. My next suggestion would be, since you added windows unc share paths to emby server. Try instead mounting the network share to a local path on the server machine. Then add the local path into emby server instead of the unc share. I have a feeling this will resolve the issue.

Eeek, I am an absolute Pi/Linux newbie and I have no idea how to do this! Any clues?

The Emby client app on my Samsung TV keeps crashing so I'm losing the will to live, might just try an alternative like Plex.

Give it a try and there's a decent chance it will resolve both of your issues.

Took a bit of faffing, something to do with SMB version, who knows. And the extras are now working! You absolute legend; thanks for the help! Will have to test a bit more to see if the crashing stops, that's a job for tomorrow though. -Dave
