Hi guys,

from compatibilty point of view (e.g. Chromecast, offline watching/download on iOS/Android, etc.) what is best:
Having SRTs external or muxed into mkv?

Thank you!

Are we talking muxed text subs, or original DVDSUB/PGSSUB graphical files from discs?

Text based subs, SRT to be specific.

For graphical subs I just learned one needs to have them muxed in the file for them to direct play.

External .SRT - I've yet to see a device unable to play these.

They are also the most flexible, as you can re-time them, add new languages, force them to play, etc - all without remuxing or changing settings in your mkv etc.
